In addition to the CIR process the cosmetic industry has instituted a second, important, self-regulatory procedure the voluntary reporting of adverse reactions, which is intended to provide data on the type and incidence of adverse reactions noted by consumers or by their medical advisors. Until recently, the NRA has not participated during the approval process in assessing the potential environmental impact of pesticides. However, the NRA does supply monitoring data to MAFF and HSE for pesticide reviews. These occur once a pesticide has been approved for use for a certain length of time, or when further information is needed on an approved pesticide. These startup precautions should determine if a startup advisor or team from the client should be present for the initial startup and shake down operations. With regret, the passing is noted, on April 16, 1997, of Guy G. S. Dutton, a member of the Board of Advisors of Advances for many years and a staunch supporter of the series. Also deceased in 1997 are two giants of science, Melvin Calvin and Alexander Todd, Nobel laureates, each of whom made seminal contributions in the carbohydrate field. 

In time, the word mentor became synonymous with trusted advisor, friend, teacher, and wise person. As you will see in the explanations to follow, much but not all of this conceptualization of the role of a mentor still prevails today.
