The exercise actually originated with Raymon s own spiritual advisor, Rabbi Elie Spitz of Congregation B nai Israel in Tustin, California, who calls it cosmic empathy. The technique is rooted in Jewish folk practice where for at least the past two hundred years, Jews praying at the Western Wall of the Old City of Jerusalem have stuck prayers written on scraps of paper (in Yiddish called kvittels) in between the crevices of the Wall. It s supposed to be a direct line, a spirtual mailbox, she says.
