Antimonious acid H3Sb03 and its salts are less well characterized but a few meta-antimonites and polyantimonites are known, e.g. NaSb02, NaSb305.H20 and Na2Sb407. The oxide itself finds extensive use as a flame retardant in fabrics, paper, paints, plastics, epoxy resins, adhesives and rubbers. The scale of industrial use can be gauged from the US statistics which indicate an annual consumption of Sb203 of some 10000 tonnes in that country. [Pg.575]

It should be understood that the reported practices of polymer/additive analysis, being the focus of this book, equally well apply to additive analysis of rubbers, textile fibres, surface coatings, paints, resins, adhesives, paper and food, but specific product knowledge gives the edge. Both fresh and aged materials may be analysed, as well as those of both industrial and forensic origin. [Pg.22]

Uses Xylene occurs in the manufacture of different petroleum products and as an impurity in benzene and toluene. It is a colorless and flammable liquid. Commercial xylene is a mixture of three isomers, namely, ortho-, meta-, and paraisomer. It is extensively used in industries associated with paints, rubber, inks, resins, adhesives, paper coating, solvents, and emulsifiers. It also is used in the manufacture of plasticizers, glass-reinforced polyesters, and alkyl resins. Xylene is used as an important raw material. [Pg.212]

CHLOREZ is compatible with most commonly used resins, rubbers, plasticizers, waxes, and drying oils. Because of their very high active halogen content and low cost, CHLOREZ products are finding wide usage as flame retardant additives in coatings, inks, plastics, foams, adhesives, paper and fabrics. [Pg.257]

Use (Rubber) Tires, hose, belting, and packing molded and extruded automotive and industrial products soles and heels hard rubber. (Latex) Adhesives, foamed rubber, textile and rug backing, paper coating and impregnation, modification of plastics to produce high-impact strength, asphalt additive. [Pg.585]

Use Insect chemosteriliant, addition products for textile treatments, adhesives, paper and rubber processing, cross-linking agent in polymer systems which contain active hydrogens, monomer. [Pg.808]

Emulsion polymerization is used in the chemical industry to produce a milky fluid called latex which is used as the synthetic rubber raw material in paints, surface coatings, adhesives, paper, textile and leather treatment chemicals and in the manufacture of various other products. In-situ formed micelles are used in order to perform an emulsion polymerization process, carried out in an aqueous medium. There are four basic ingredients required for emulsion polymerization. They are (a) the monomer, a polymerizable organic material, (b) the water dispersion medium, (c) the emulsifier (surfactant) and (d) the initiator. When correct amounts of the ingredients are mixed together properly in a suitable... [Pg.210]
