Practical reports

Compared to antipsychotics, there are even fewer studies on the prescribing patterns of antidepressants done in Asian countries. Pi etal. (1985) conducted a survey of psychotropic prescribing practices reported by psychiatrists in 29 medical schools in 9 Asian countries. Daily dose range of tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) such as amitriptyline, imipramine, and nortriptyline in Asian countries was comparable to the practice in USA. This is despite differences found between Asian and non-Asian populations in the pharmacokinetics of TCAs (Pi et al, 1993). A questionnaire on the practical prescribing approaches in mood disorders administered to 298 Japanese psychiatrists was reported by Oshima et al. (1999). As first-line treatment, the majority of respondents chose newer TCAs or non-TCAs for moderate depression and older TCAs for severe depression. Combination of antidepressants and anxiolytics was preferred in moderate depression, while an antidepressant and antipsychotic combination was common in severe psychotic depression. Surprisingly, sulpiride was the most favored drug for dysthymia. In a naturalistic, prospective follow-up of 95 patients with major depression in Japan, the proportion of patients receiving 125 mg/day or less of imipramine was 69% at one month and 67% at six months (Furukawa et al., 2000).

Although the blast load is specifically related to external or internal bomb threats, the analysis technique and design approaches for hardening structures are similar in many ways. 

A 1996 report in the journal Pediatrics that looked at a variety of studies and surveys of athletic weight-control practices reported that up to 52% of female collegiate athletes had engaged in unhealthy weight-control behaviors including diuretic use. 

The concept behind the MRA is that one regulatory authority will accept the findings of another authority with confidence in the rigor of the inspection process and hence negate the reason to conduct its own inspection of the same pharmaceutical or healthcare company. This is all good theory but requires harmonized inspection standards, practices, reporting, and training.

Practical reports, project reports, theses and scientific papers differ greatly in depth, scope and size, but they all have the same basic structure (Box 52.1). Some variation is permitted, however (see Box 52.1), and you should always follow the advice or rules provided by your department. 

Experimental instructions may be provided by your supervisor for practical reports. With project work, your lab notebook (see p. 67) should provide the basis for writing this section. 

Organizing and using lecture notes, assignments and practical reports... 

Given their importance as a source of material for revision, you should have sorted out any deficiencies or omissions in lecture notes/practical reports at an early stage. For example, you may have missed a lecture or practical due to illness etc., but the exam is likely to assume attendance throughout the year. Make sure you attend classes whenever possible and keep your notes up to date. 

Your practical reports and any assignment work will contain specific comments from the teaching staff, indicating where marks were lost, corrections, mistakes, inadequacies, etc. It is always worth reading these comments as soon as your work is returned, to improve the standard of your subsequent reports. If you are unsure about why you lost marks in an assignment, or about some particular aspects of a topic, ask the appropriate member of staff for further explanation. Most lecturers are quite happy to discuss such details with students on a one-to-one basis and this information may provide you with clues to the expectations of individual lecturers that...

Ferroelectrics of interest are often multicomponent oxides. The metal elements in concern do not always show enough solubility in given solvent. Therefore, the choice of precursor compounds and the dissolution procedures, as well as their behaviors toward moisture and heat, are all important aspects to consider. We select a few representative ferroelectric systems to illustrate the practices reported on the solution preparations.

After the problem is identified, it needs to be clearly formulated into a researchable framework. This has been explained by Phang and Mohd-Yusof (2013). The next step is to review the literature of the existing theories from the past and current research or practice reports. This is to ensure that the research is well grounded in strong educational principles or theories (Streveler and Smith 2006). 

Community activity in the nuclear field is based on the provisions of the Euratom Treaty of 1958. This treaty and developments from it have been primarily concerned with promoting nuclear research and development. Although there has also been activity in the field of design safety criteria, worker and public dose limits and responses to incidents, after Chernobyl the Community found, for example, that it had no provisions in any existing Directives specifying limits to the radioactive content of foodstuffs. Furthermore, the Commission s attempts to coordinate a Community response after Chernobyl showed that there were major differences in sampling practices, reporting of results, etc., between member countries which made harmonisation of responses difficult.
