Some people find the effects of solvents on the nervous system desirable and purposely inhale (sniff) solvents to induce a form of intoxication. In the United States approximately 15% of high school students have tried solvent inhalation at least once. Solvents suitable for inhalation and abuse are common in the home. Home products that may contain solvents include paints, paint remover, varnishes, adhesives, glues, degreasing and cleaning agents, dyes, printing ink, floor and shoe polishes, waxes, pesticides, drugs, cosmetics, and fuels, just to name a few (Table 11.1). 

The combined panels of the desired number of plies or layers are now transferred either directly to the hot press or to a cold press and then to the hot press. The cold prepress tacks the veneer adhesive glue line together so the panels require smaller openings in the hot press, thus permitting larger numbers of hot press openings per cycle of production.

These authors placed a drop of adhesive glue on a glass slide, which was then placed over the skin and covered with a 200-g cylinder to apply constant pressure for 5 min. The glass shde was thrai removed quickly, and colorimetry was used to assess the resulting biopsy. They performed this procedure twice on each site. It was concluded that the combination of skin surface biopsy and colorimetry has the potmtial to obtain encouraging results, and that the methodology can be extended to the in vivo assessment of more complex formulations.

It is also a degreasing and cleaning fluid used as a solvent for food processing. Used for color dye or fixative and as an extraction solvent. Not used much as a propellant anymore. 

Natural phenolic compounds are used as both replacements for substantial portions of synthetic phenol in plywood adhesive resins and as glue mix additives to improve performance 4 to 6% is added, based on phenolic resin solids.
