Other condensations

Other condensations a. Condensation with nuclear methyl groups [Pg.989]

Nuclear methyl groups are reactive if attached to an aromatic ring carrying other substituents in certain positions or if attached to a heterocyclic ring. [Pg.989]

One substituent is usually insufficient to facilitate condensation mono-nitrotoluenes react poorly with benzaldehyde, but condensation between the dinitrotoluenes and benzaldehyde leads to the corresponding stilbene derivatives.952 However, methyl groups attached to heterocyclic systems have been much more often used for such condensations Ladenburg953 showed that 2-methylpyridine and acetaldehyde at 250° give 2-propenylpyridine and 4-methylpyridine reacts similarly.954 [Pg.989]

In their porphyrin syntheses Fischer and his co-workers955 made great use of the condensation of methylpyrroles with pyrrolecarbaldehyde. Methyl groups attached to aromatic condensed heterocycles can also be condensed with aldehydes in this way in the presence of zinc chloride, quinaldine hydrochloride and 2-ethylhexanal give 2-(3-ethyl-l-heptenyl)quinoline in 87% yield 956 and 9-methylacridine condenses with m- or / -nitrobenzaldehyde, giving the 9-styryl derivatives in good yield.957 [Pg.989]

With the dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCQ reagent racemization is more pronounced in polar solvents such as DMF than in CHjCl2, for example. An efficient method for reduction of racemization in coupling with DCC is to use additives such as N-hydroxysuccinimide or l-hydroxybenzotriazole. A possible explanation for this effect of nucleophilic additives is that they compete with the amino component for the acyl group to form active esters, which in turn reaa without racemization. There are some other condensation agents (e.g. 2-ethyl-7-hydroxybenz[d]isoxazolium and l-ethoxycarbonyl-2-ethoxy-l,2-dihydroquinoline) that have been found not to lead to significant racemization. They have, however, not been widely tested in peptide synthesis. [Pg.231]

Comparable but equally specific considerations must be applied to other condensation polymer systems. The following example is an illustration of the application of these ideas to the molecular weight of polyamides. [Pg.31]

Acrolein reacts slowly in water to form 3-hydroxypropionaldehyde and then other condensation products from aldol and Michael reactions. Water dissolved in acrolein does not present a hazard. The reaction of acrolein with water is exothermic and the reaction proceeds slowly in dilute aqueous solution. This will be hazardous in a two-phase adiabatic system in which acrolein is suppHed from the upper layer to replenish that consumed in the lower, aqueous, layer. The rate at which these reactions occur will depend on the nature of the impurities in the water, the volume of the water layer, and the rate... [Pg.128]

Heteroatom Chain Backbone Polymers. This class of polymers includes polyesters, which have been widely studied from the initial period of research on biodegradable polymers, polyamides, polyethers, polyacetals, and other condensation polymers. Their linkages are quite frequendy found in nature and these polymers are more likely to biodegrade than hydrocarbon-based polymers. [Pg.480]

The reaction of methoxy-substituted 1,4-dihydroatomatic systems is a general one. Other condensed systems react ia a similar manner, for example, 3,6-dimethoxy-1,4,S,8-tetrahydronaphtha1ene and derivatives of anthracene (35) and xanthene (36) (74). The proposed method enables synthesis of the tri-and tetracarbocyanines where the whole chromophore is iategrated iato a rigidizing skeleton. Asymmetrical polymethines can also be obtained similarly. [Pg.498]

Production. The main difference in the production of sweet and milk chocolate is that in the production of milk chocolate, water must be removed from the milk. Many milk chocolate producers in the United States use spray-dried milk powder. Others condense fresh whole milk with sugar, and either dry it, producing milk cmmb, or blend it with chocolate Hquor and then dry it, producing milk chocolate cmmb. These cmmbs are mixed with... [Pg.94]

The coupling constants of ortho ( Jhh = 7 Hz), meta Jhh =1-5 Hz) and para protons CJhh I Hz) in benzene and naphthalene ring systems are especially useful in structure elucidation (Table 2.5). With naphthalene and other condensed (hetero-) aromatics, a knowledge of zig zag coupling = 0.8 Hz) is helpful in deducing substitution patterns. [Pg.21]

Moisture in a gas stream might be water vapor from the air or a water scrubber unit, or it could be some other condensable vapor being carried in the gas stream. It is important in compressor volume calculations to know the moisture (or condensable vapor) condition of the gas. [Pg.370]

Similar interchange processes may occur in other condensation polymers under suitable conditions. There is ample evidence in the literature on polyamides, and on monomeric amides as well, for the occurrence of the amine-amide interchange reaction (II)... [Pg.89]

The condensation of NH3 with acetylene can give rise to vinylamine, which is probably an intermediate (together with ethyUdeneimine) in the formation of acetonitrile and other condensation products (Scheme 4-7). [Pg.115]

Other condensations by means of triisopropylbenzenesulfonyltetrazole to give di- and trideoxynucleotides as well as hexa- and pentadecamers are described in references [130] and [131], respectively. [Pg.268]

This success does, however, have a drawback the urea concentrations required could not possibly have existed in the primeval ocean. Thus, as in the case of other condensation reactions, one has to assume that there were ponds or lagoons, in which the necessary reagent concentrations could build up via evaporation of water. [Pg.94]

The reaction mixture consisted only of glycine and water, without the addition of salts or other condensation catalysts. A stepwise, time-dependent synthesis of oligomers up to hexaglycine was observed. On addition of Ca2+ ions (pH 2.5), the oligomerisation continued further to give octaglycine. [Pg.133]

Other condensed polyphosphoric acids have the general formula Hn+2Pn03n+1, and they are formally produced by the elimination of water between the (n — 1) acid and a molecule of ff3P04. The general structure can be represented as... [Pg.515]
