Accidents roadway

The most common skin injuries are abrasions and lacerations that are the result of accidents such as road rash. This is caused by the body scraping along the roadway such as in a motorcycle accident. Patients who receive an abrasion or laceration are exposed to the same risk as a bum patient. [Pg.406]

As ITS evolves from pure research, limited prototyping, and pilot projects into routine usage, decision makers at the corporate, state, regional, and local levels seek reliable information about the contribution that ITS products can make toward meeting the demand for safe and efficient movement of people and goods. Literature indicates that substantial benefits have already been realized in areas such as accident reduction, travel-time savings, customer service, roadway capacity, emission reduction, fuel consumption, and vehicle stops. Greater benefits are predicted with more extensive... [Pg.819]

ABSTRACT In order to analyze the law of airflow catastrophic of side branches induced by gas pressure in upward ventilation after dynamic of outburst disappearing, one dimensional unsteady-state flow momentum equation of gas flow is established. Combined with circuit airflow pressure balance equation, this equation is used in static and dynamic analysis on airflow catastrophic of side branches induced by gas pressure in upward ventilation. The research results show that gas pressure is produced in upward ventilated roadway when gas flowed by when the gas pressure is great enough, the air flow in side branches reverses. Whether the air flow in side branches reverse is affected by their own length and initial velocity. In order to prevent the air flow reversal in the side branches, it is necessary keep the fan normal operating, and avoids adding resistance in external system. The research results may be of important theoretical and practical significance for outburst accident rescue as well as effective prevention of the occurrence of secondary accidents. [Pg.191]

In coal mine, although gas and dust may explode in any place, most of explosion accidents often occur in coal mining and tunneling faces. Normally, the layout of roadway space of coal mining and tunneling faces can be simplified into pipeline space model of one end being closed and the other one... [Pg.837]

Seen from the theoretical analysis and the real accident, the mixture composed by gas and small coal has an obvious effect of sorting after coal and gas outburst. The closer to the outburst hole, the larger particle of small coal deposited on the floor of roadway priority. Generally speaking. For any pile of small coal in the roadway after coal and gas outburst, there is a lot of tiny coal on the surface. But at the bottom of this pile of small coal there is usually many big blocks of coal. At the place which is closer to the outburst hole the diameter of particle is larger relatively. On the contrary, the diameter of particle is smaller. All those phenomenon show that the bigger coal sink faster than the smaller coal. [Pg.1059]

The CVSA is a not-for-profit organization that was created to keep the roadways safe from commercial motor vehicle accidents and incidents. Its devotion to safety is demonstrated in its current mission statement which reads Our mission is to promote commercial motor vehicle safety and security by providing leadership to enforcement, industry, and policy makers. This is accomplished by establishing effective transportation safety standards for motor carriers, drivers, vehicles, and inspectors through compliance, education, training, and enforcement programs. ... [Pg.515]

Not getting witness information is a common error committed by drivers. This can be caused by the officers will get it assumption or the actions of the officers on scene. Officers are under intense pressme to conduct quick investigations and open lanes, and to get any rmnecessary people off the roadways to avoid further accidents. Because of this, sometimes they deliberately chase everyone away except the vehicles/... [Pg.685]

Understand, always, that this is a dangerous business. As long as there are motor vehicles on our nation s roadways, accidents will happen. It s your responsibility to make sure every driver maintains a healthy respect for their role. Drivers must be constantly aware of their safety responsibility. You can help by sharing the latest large vehicle crash statistics and trends, and constantly reinforcing the safety culture you are working hard to create. [Pg.745]

It doesn t matter how seasoned or safe a driver you have, accidents happen every day on roadways across the country. [Pg.861]

A continued increase in traffic over the past few years could equate into a greater likelihood of an accident happening. The roadways are getting more and more congested, and people seem to be driving more and more aggressively. [Pg.861]

Description Most pedestrian accidents occur when the pedestrian walks onto a roadway and into the path of an approaching vehicle. Pedestrians often misjudge the speed and closeness of a commercial motor vehicle. Pedestrians assume you can and will slow down for them. Pedestrians think that because they can see you, you can see them. These kinds of errors in judgment are why pedestrian accidents fi equently occur. Drivers should try to anticipate pedestrians making such errors and be prepared to compensate. [Pg.1130]

Any accident involving one or more motor vehicles in motion on a roadway. A traffic accident may involve more than one unit if each unit comes in contact with some other unit involved while part or either is in contact with the road or sidewalk. [Pg.289]

Another example is the standard on classification of motor vehicle traffic accidents published by NSC. It provides a uniform method for compiling data on highway accidents. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) provides formulas for calculating roadway departure crashes from crash rate data. The method helps highway planners select the types and locations for barriers and guardrails and implement other safety improvements. [Pg.82]

In addition, studies have revealed several other facts about motor vehicle accidents, injuries, and deaths. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that in 2013 there were 4,628 work-related fataUties." Of those, 1,740 (38%) were transportation-related cases. Of the transportalion fatalities, 57% were roadway incidents involving motorized land vehicles, while the remainder involved off-highway, farm, and other kinds of vehicles. As a result, work-related transportation accidents are the leading cause of workplace injuries and deaths. The... [Pg.176]

Traffic density, merging traffic, and visual distractions are factors of the environment related to vehicle accidents. Trees, bushes, and buildings that obscure intersections and people or vehicles emerging from driveways and yards are environment conditions, too. Community zoning ordinances often control setback of buildings, vegetation, fencing, and other obstruction from roadways to help assure visibility. [Pg.183]

A road tanker carrying approximately 19 tons of anhydrous ammonia crashed through a barrier at an elevated section of motorway near Houston, Texas (Pedersen and Selig, 1989 Kaiser and Walker, 1978). The pressurized tank burst on hitting the roadway below. Five people were killed and 178 people injured. High concentrations of ammonia were confined to within a few hundred meters of the source of the accident. AU the fatalities and permanent injuries were within 70 m of the release source. The concentration contours predicted from calculations and models to account for the fatalities and injuries are shown in Table 32.8. [Pg.711]
