The 3D inspection system has a number of measuring and report utilities that enables the user to easily find, analyse and report possible indications in the test object. As an example, a moveable 2D projection view plane can be moved along e.g, the welding geometry dynamically updating the content of the 2D projection view window. Indications can be measured using any referenee co-ordinate system and the results and screen dumps can automatically be dumped in report files suited for later import into a word processing application. 

The input could be from a PC (personal computer), as in word processing, but could equally well be from an instrument the output could be to a video screen, a printer, or to the same or another instrument (Figure 42.9). All these functions are organized by the central processor in so-called real time, i.e., virtually immediately. 

In a similar manner to the program for optimization of a packed column, the program written in table (2) is in a very simple form that can be translated easily to the basic language used by other computers. The output will be sent directly to the monitor screen in the output window. However, by replacing the PRINT statements by LPRINT statements the output will be sent to a printer. If the clipboard is defined a file, and the result print, statements are replaced by write statements, then the results can be sent to the clipboard and pasted into word processing text. An example of an output from the program Is shown in Table (3),... 

Special function keys, such as those in some word processing systems are a hybrid of both of the above. The keys can either represent commands or a form of interactive menu depending on your point of view. In some of the Hewlett-Packard terminals the split between functions is clearer. Keys located under the face of the screen can be used for menu selection, while others can be programmed to enter preset commands (when a key is struck, it causes a user defined character string to be sent to the system). 

The word processor has facilitated writing because of the ease of revising text. Word processing is a transferable skill valuable beyond the immediate requirements of your chemistry course. Using a word processor should improve your writing skills and speed because you can create, check and change your text on the screen before printing it as hard copy on paper. Once entered and saved, multiple uses can be made of a piece of text with little effort. 

In most word processors, the appearance of the screen realistically represents what the printout on paper will look like (WYSIWYG). Word processing files actually contain large amounts of code relating to text format etc., but these clutter the screen if visible, as in non-WYSIWYG programs. Some word processors are menu driven, others require keyboard entry of codes menus are easier to start with and the more sophisticated programs allow you to choose between these options. 

Learn the Skill To start your word processing program, a blank document, sometimes called Document 1, appears on the screen. To begin, start typing. To create a new document, click the New button on the standard tool bar. These tips will help you format the document. 

Select the flowsheet by dragging the mouse from the upper-left comer to the lower-right comer. Copy the flowsheet and paste it into the application. You can also use the Print Screen key and then go to your word processing program and paste it. Use the Picture/ Crop function to select the portion of the diagram that you want displayed. The best way to capture the Stream Table is to select the entire table and paste it into Excel. This is done from the Results/Summary/Stream option.
