Corroborating results

Analytical chemists must always be thorough. One thread from a carpet will not serve to locate a suspect at a crime scene, but a thread from a carpet, plus a hair from the dog, plus a smear of fresh paint may convince a jury. Cohort studies of herbicide sprayers are presented in Table V. An excess of mortality from stomach cancer was statistically significant in one small Swedish study (27). No specific malignancies were found in excess in the other studies. All had low statistical power and limited exposure assessments. The researchers had insufficient information about the types of phenoxy herbicides to which the workers were exposed and limited data about the intensity and duration of the exposures. Some phenoxy herbicides do not contain 2,3,7,8-TCDD. Corroborating results from other studies and additional observations obtained through further vital status follow-up of the cohorts may reduce the ambiguity of the results. 

The instruments of surface analysis have become extremely important for electrochemistry. Investigations have been performed to study the double layer and corroborate results of electrochemical methods. 

Solubility measurements have been made for a variety of multicon onent systems that include potassium dihydrogenphosphate as a component. However, an evaluation cannot be made of most of these studies because of a lack of corroborating results. The systems may be differentiated according to the type of solid phases that are in equilibrium with the saturated solutions. 

Boyard et al. [28] carried out both tests and have found corroborating results as presented on Figure 1.8.
