The modem winch is constmcted of stainless steel and may be built foi atmospheric temperatures or it may be a heavy-walled, sealed unit suitable for high temperature/high pressure work. Sophisticated controls are added to monitor the entire dye cycle and ensure that dyeings are as consistent as possible. 

Another extremely popular machine of this type is the jet dyeing machine which conserves energy by reducing the cloth-to-Hquor ratio to 1 10 or lower as compared to 1 20 for the winch. In this machine, the fabric which is in a rope form is transported by movement of the dye Hquor through a Venturi jet. This method provides intimate contact between the dye Hquor and each meter of material. The machine operates at 40—135°C. 

Batch Processes. In batch processes, dyeing is conducted in various circulating-goods machines (e.g., jigger, winch beck, jet, and overflow machines) and circulating-liquor machines (yam, piece, and package dyeing machines) (see Sections 4.1.1). 

Alkali metal polysulfides are added to stabilize alkaline sulfur dye liquors against atmospheric oxygen. This is common for Hydron Blue, especially on the winch beck.
