Sealing units

The modem winch is constmcted of stainless steel and may be built foi atmospheric temperatures or it may be a heavy-walled, sealed unit suitable for high temperature/high pressure work. Sophisticated controls are added to monitor the entire dye cycle and ensure that dyeings are as consistent as possible. 

The seal unit located at each end of the multistage compressor rotor is installed as a cartridge. The cartridge has positive locating features to permit proper placement on installation. It normally includes a provision to ensure that cartridges are not interchanged from the intended end. This is to prevent reverse rotation on the unidirectional configurations. 

As a replacement for bulk oil circuit breakers for distribution purposes, vacuum is a rival to SFg. The contact interruption chamber is a sealed unit with a small contact-separation distances (typically, 16mm for 24kV). Choice of contact material is critical since the material affects ... 

The seal shown back in Figure 56.4 depicts a typical friction drive or single-coil spring seal unit. This design is limited in its use because the seal relies on friction to turn the rotary unit. Because of this, its use is limited to liquids such as water or other non-lubricating fluids. If this type of seal is to be used with liquids that have natural lubricating properties, it must be mechanically locked to the drive shaft. 

This procedure provides detailed instructions on how to repack centrifugal pump packed stuffing boxes or glands. The methodology described here is applicable to other gland sealed units such as valves and reciprocating machinery. 

It is much smaller than other pumps of equal capacity. It can, therefore, be made into a sealed unit with the driving motor, and immersed in the suction tank.

Parylenes can be used for contamination control, that is, securing small particles to prevent them from damaging a surface in a sealed unit barrier coaling coaling for corrosion control and as dry lubricants. 

These versatile machines are used for liquid clarification, concentration of light slurries, and liquid-liquid separation. They are capable of continuous operation even with high solids concentrations, since the solids phase can be discharged periodically if desired. They can also be arranged as hermetically sealed units for handling hazardous materials or in sterile applications. 

Heating of radioactive solutions, particularly under elevated pressure (e.g., steam sterilization), is also a matter of safety. In order to avoid any contaminated air to escape if a container or a seal is broken, autoclaves used for radioactive solutions should be placed inside negative-pressure sealed units. Autoclaves used for sterilizing high-energy y-emitting radiopharmaceuticals should in addition be supplied with proper lead shielding. 

The FDA and other regulatory authorities require that all major items of equipment be uniquely identified. All the specified components of the system should be present and correct including printers. Visual Display Units (VDUs) and touch screens, keyboards, and computer cards. The identifying serial numbers and model numbers of all the major items must be recorded. The question as to whether units of equipment need to be dismantled in order to check their component details is often raised. If a unit is sealed in such a way that dismanthng would invalidate the manufacturer s equipment warranty, then disassembly should not be attempted it is not required in these circumstances. The IQ should simply check the unique identity of the sealed unit. Processing boards that are clip-fastened into slots in a rack should have their serial numbers recorded, along with their slot position within the rack. It is worth checking with suppliers in advance of delivery whether their equipment does in fact have unique identifiers.
