Wastes contracts

The EPA Contract Laboratory Program (CLP) has responsibility for managing the analysis programs required under the U.S. Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA). The approved analytical methods are designed to analyze water, soil, and sediment from potentially hazardous waste sites to determine the presence or absence of certain environmentally harmful organic compounds. The methods described here all require the use of GC/MS. [Pg.295]

Work on SCWO process development was performed in the early 1970s and in the 1980s, many of the developments were performed under private contract to industrial or federal agencies. The technology for waste treatment and generation of energy from waste or low grade materials was commercialized by Modar (Natick, Massachusetts). [Pg.499]

Contract disposal agencies offer their services to reheve the chemical industry of unwanted materials however, the cost of such disposal (primarily incineration) is high. The manufacturer should ascertain that the disposal agency employees are adequately aware of chemical ha2ards and can responsibly handle and dispose of the waste materials (see Wastes, industrial). [Pg.101]

Develop detailed contracts with outside waste-management firms. Define clearly the duties and responsibilities of plant personnel and waste-collection personnel. [Pg.2261]

For hazardous and other regulated waste streams, these contract terms should address at a minimum ... [Pg.59]

The toller needs to be familiar with all raw materials, intermediate materials, products and wastes, used, produced or generated, respectively, while operating the process. Tollers in the U.S. should comply with the Federal OSHA Hazard Communication Standard, codified as 29 CFR. 1910.1200 and any similar state right-to-know laws that are currently in force or may be enacted during the term of the contract. This is often stated in the contract. The contract may require the toller to inform its employees of the chemical hazards associated with products or chemicals and may also be responsible for training its employees in the proper handling methods. The toller has an obligation when in doubt about a product or chemical, to seek further information from the product s manufacturer. [Pg.61]

Like decontamination, directions for proper waste disposal should be indicated in the initial technology package. In some cases, the client company should be very involved in how certain wastes are handled and disposed of, and may even maintain control over this part of the toll. Both parties have vested interest in assuring waste disposal is properly completed and adequately documented prior to termination of contract. [Pg.137]

Check whether there is a formal system for waste disposal. Is off-site waste disposal covered by contract or letter of agreement that specifies the mode of disposal, liabilities and responsibilities Is waste disposed on-site covered by permits as required by applicable legislation ... [Pg.200]

Customer engineering standards and specifications are external documents. Therefore your procedure for controlling external documents should also cover these documents. Where ISO/TS 16949 differs from ISO 9001 on this topic is that ISO 9001 does not require external documents to be reviewed or implemented. However, any external document received or procured for the organization should be reviewed for its applicability before it is brought under control, otherwise resources could be wasted on controlling documents that have no practical use in the organization. This requirement could be placed under Contract rev/ew since any documents issued by customers form part of the contract and should go through contract review before acceptance and implementation. [Pg.297]

When a cardiotonic drug is administered, die positive inotropic action increases the force of die contraction, resulting in an increased cardiac output. When cardiac output is increased, the blood supply to die kidneys and otiier vital organs is increased. Water, electrolytes, and waste products are removed in adequate amounts, and tiie symptoms of inadequate heart action or HF are relieved, hi most instances, the heart rate also decreases. This occurs because vital organs are now receiving an adequate blood supply because of the increased force of myocardial contraction. [Pg.359]

BASF has delayed a decision on whether to press ahead with a DM300 million investment in a plastics feedstock recycling unit at Ludwigshafen. The decision to go ahead depends on the winning of a contract from DKR, a new recycling company for plastics packaging waste. The article supplies full details. [Pg.101]

SIADH (should distinguish between cerebral salt-wasting syndrome in which patients are volume-contracted)... [Pg.169]

Waste treatment costs are those involved with disposing of by-products or off-grade products when these tasks are performed by facilities not directly connected with the plant. These costs are negotiated and vary widely. Sometimes long-term contracts with a guaranteed minimum are demanded. This is especially true if the contractor must build new facilities or expand his present operations in order to process the waste material. Some costs are given in Chapter 16. [Pg.282]

Sometimes pollution is acceptable in small amounts. When Columbus landed in the New World there were an estimated 15,000 Indians living in the area that is now Ohio (1970 population 10,652,017). Did these Indians pollute the environment They made open tires, something that is now banned in all municipal areas, and they urinated and defecated at large. Still, since they were so few in number, the cleansing actions of the air, water and biosphere could rapidly assimilate then-wastes and no accumulating harm was done. In the strict sense of the word pollution, they did dirty the streams and anyone drinking the water shortly afterwards could contract the diseases whose infective agents were present in their wastes. However, with a little care this was unlikely, and their pollution was not considered bad. [Pg.424]

The waste materials from the separation process are prepared for coprocessing by a contracted firm. Different tests are carried out on the waste material at the Lafarge laboratories to control the calorific power, ash production, and presence of chlorides. These characteristics are extremely important for successful coprocessing [6]. An example of the trends of the results of these tests is shown in Fig. 9. [Pg.393]

Every laboratory should be equipped with a waste solvent container in which all waste organic solvents and solutions are collected. The contents of these containers should be periodically transferred to properly labeled waste solvent drums and arrangements made for contracted disposal in a regulated and licensed incineration facility. ... [Pg.265]
