Terms of contracting

Internal personnel will normally undertake boiler plant operation. Maintenance work may be by either internal personnel or outside contractors. Service contracts will be available from equipment suppliers covering all items of the boiler plant. Recently, companies have started offering contract energy-management schemes. These may be designed to suit individual applications and will be tailored to customer requirements. They may take over the operation of an existing plant or, if necessary, include for a new replacement plant. They will usually operate over a 3-10-year contract period. Dependent upon the terms of contract, all fuels, electricity, repairs and replacements may be covered.

Model experiments were carried out to study the relation between friction and kinetics of electrochemical processes occurring during polarization of metal-polymer pairs [62]. The experiments employed a pendulum tribometer 1 (Fig. 4.14a) whose advantage is the presence of only one friction pair for examination at a time. The tribometer consists of a pendulum 2, a support 3, and a prism 4 on which the pendulum hangs. Support 3 is made as a vessel containing an electrolyte into which the friction surface in the form of one of the prism faces is immersed. The pendulum is set in motion at a constant initial amplitude. Attenuation of oscillations is recorded in terms of contracting amplitudes of the sinusoidal signal from the inductive pickup 6, into which the bow-shaped core 5 is in turn inserted as the pendulum oscillates.

Several different sizes of cc basis sets are available in terms of final number of contracted functions. These are known by their acronyms cc-pVDZ, cc-pVTZ, cc-pVQZ, cc-pV5Z and cc-pV6Z correlation consistent polarized Valence Double/Triple/Quadru-ple/Quintuple/Sextuple Zeta). For long-term applications the terms of contract for the equipment (buying or hiring) become important. Since some components of the measuring system are subject to further technical iimovation, they are not reusable after the first application and have to be amortized over some few years. Buying may be more favorable than hiring and allows reducing the aimual... 

To evaluate the relative worth of any capital cost impacts which do not show up in the item prices. These may for instance include costs of transport, erection and commissioning, associated foundations, electrical reticulation, instrumentation and control gear, and pipework. Normally the parallel commercial appraisal, excluded from this scope, will include such factors as impact of terms of payment, duties and taxes, foreign exchange, import/export permit availability, and terms of contract. The interface between the engineering and commercial appraisals needs to be co-ordinated. 

The proposed approach in the workflow form is depicted in Figure 1. On the top, a model of the system is defined. This model consists of the two elements software components which implement certain application-level functions, and the platform, which is a model of an embedded system. Both software components and the platform implement certain contracts, in order to express relations to other dependent components or platform. These contracts are the fundamental elements of the system model that allow us to maintain the consistency of the system. They contain the information about system attributes discussed in the previous section, and provide means to build relationships to other contracts. Based on those relationships, impact of changes in one particular contract can be tracked throughout the complete system. We introduce contracts later in Section 4.2. In the next step of the workflow, the system in terms of contracts is translated into a so called constraint network, i.e., a set of inter-connected variables and constraints. This constraint network represent contracts and their relationships in another problem domain, which allows us to automatically analyze the consistency of the system by evaluating constraints.

From a methodological point of view, we use entry, exit and persistence indicators to highlight differences in the contracting behaviour of laboratories over the nine year period and to underline that persistence in contracting is a major phenomenon. We use appropriate statistical tests to analyse whether persistent and non-persistent laboratories have the same portfolio of contracts and whether the demand side or the experience hypothesis dominates, or both co-exist. Overall, our contribution aims at shedding new light on how past behaviour in terms of contracting influences the current portfolio of contracts of academic laboratories.
