Titanium metal is especially utilised ia environments of wet chlorine gas and bleaching solutions, ie, in the chlor—alkaH industry and the pulp and paper industries, where titanium is used as anodes for chlorine production, chlorine—caustic scmbbers, pulp washers, and CI2, CIO2, and HCIO storage and piping equipment (see Alkali and cm ORiNE products Paper Pulp). [Pg.110]

An important aspect of economic consideration is the prevention of egg and egg product loss to the drain or the atmosphere, eg, a checked or cracked egg may be broken in the washer, and the contents go down the drain with the wash water. Hard products may also be made by vulcanising rubber (natural or synthetic) using only about two parts of sulphur per 100 parts of rubber. In these cases either the so-called high-styrene resins or phenolie rubber compounding resins are ineorporated into the formulation. These compounds are processed using the methods of rubber technology but, like those of ebonite, the produets are more akin to plastics than to rubbers. But an ideological shift in Congress disrupted this process. In the 104th Congress, industrial opponents of appliance efficiency standards found sympathetic support, and passed a one-year moratorium on appliance efficiency standards in 1995. The moratorium held back DOE efforts on appliance standards for nearly two years. The refrigerator standard that was to be issued early in 1995 was delayed until 1997, and the effectiveness date set hack three years until 2001. In the chemical process industry molybdenum has found use as washers and bolts to patch glass-lined vessels used in sulphuric acid and acid environments where nascent hydrogen is produced. Molybdenum thermocouples and valves have also been used in sulphuric acid applications, and molybdenum alloys have been used as reactor linings in plant used for the production of n-butyl chloride by reactions involving hydrochloric and sulphuric acids at temperatures in excess of 170°C. Miscellaneous applications where molybdenum has been used include the liquid phase Zircex hydrochlorination process, the Van Arkel Iodide process for zirconium production and the Metal Hydrides process for the production of super-pure thorium from thorium iodide. [Pg.849]

Extruders make pellets by forcing powders, pastes, and melts through a die followed by cutting. An 8 in. screw has a capacity of 2000 Ib/hr of molten plastic and is able to extrude tubing at 150-300 ft/min and to cut it into sizes as small as washers at 8000/min. Ring pellet extrusion mills have hole diameters of 1.6-32 mm. Production rates cover a range of 30-200 lb/(hr)(HP). [Pg.14]

Dibromofuran (30 g, 0.13 mol), SF4 (40 g, 0.37 mol), HF (20 mL, 1.0 mol), and Br2 (0.2 g, 1.25 mmol) were placed in a stainless steel autoclave and kept at 0 C for 18 h. Gaseous products were passed through washers filled with aq KOH, and liquid which collected in the washers was separated and combined with liquid remaining in the autoclave. The combined liquid products were washed with H20, steam distilled and the organic layer in the distillate separated, dried (Na2SQ4), and redistilled yield 17 g (90 %) bp64 C. [Pg.400]

Returnable bottles are generally subjected to a three-part process. Bottles are washed in a bottle washer, as they would be for non-aseptic production however, the final rinse is with hot water, which has an initial bacteriocidal effect. The bottle rinser and filler are enclosed in an HEPA-filtered chamber the rinser uses hot water, maintaining the decontamination finally the filler injects steam into the bottle just prior to filling. The total process leads to a high log reduction in bacterial contamination, producing commercially sterile products. This process has been used for carbonated drinks. [Pg.189]
