Wall coverings/papers

In order to impregnate paper, wood and other fillers, nearly 10-15 per cent of the phenolic resins is produced as alcoholic solutions. These find use for decorative purposes for counter tops and wall coverings and industrial laminates of electrical parts. [Pg.165]

In the investigation of a number of cases of fatal poisoning attributed to wall coverings, the evidence has led to the plaster as being the source of the trouble.18 Thus, in a case in which two children died at Cinder-ford, Forest of Dean, in 1932, the paper from a dry part of the wall contained 8-3 parts Asa03 per million, a sample where mould was most... [Pg.292]

PAPERMAKING AND FINISHING. One of the most important factors in the progress of civilization has been paper, a thin flat tissue composed of closely matted fibers obtained almost entirely from plant sources. In modern life paper finds a variety of uses, for writing, for containers, wrappers, wall covering, and—perhaps most important—in all forms of printing newspapers, magazines, books. [Pg.1205]

The Tarbells outline the later development of free radical chemistry, in particular in their Chapter 18, dealing with 1914-1939. The history of free radical chemistry to about 1930 is dealt with by Christine King 314 Walling covers some of the same ground and continues the story to the 1940s.315 Both these papers are based on talks given in the Hammett Symposium in 1983 and include some account of free radicals in the gas phase as studied by physical chemists. [Pg.114]

USE Manuf varnishes, varnish and paint driers, printing inks, cements, soap, sealing wax. wood polishes, floor coverings, paper, plasties, fireworks, tree wax, sizes, rosin oil for water-proofing cardboard, walls, etc. Pharmaceutic aid (stiffening agent)... [Pg.1314]

Main fields of application film, foams, paper coatings, textile coatings, latex paints, lacquers, sheet goods, wire, cable, tubing, sealants, printed circuit boards, photographic base film, synthetic leather, wall coverings, flooring, tarpaulins ... [Pg.35]

Dextrins have many applications, with adhesives being their primary market (11,96). Dextrins are used as adhesives for case and carton sealing. For this application, borax is often added to the dextrin to add stability and increase viscosity. Dextrins are added to adhesives used in the laminating of products such as paperboard and shipping containers. The paper industry adds dextrins in adhesives for tube winding and bag adhesives. Library pastes, bottle label adhesives, envelop adhesives, gummed tape, and wall covering adhesives all benefit fiom dextrin addition. [Pg.174]

Flexible wall coverings n. Those which are pliable, such as paper, manmade vinyls and fabrics, as opposed to liquid wall coatings, such as paint, or rigid like wood paneling or other solid wall products such as ceramic tile. [Pg.417]

Grass cloth (1857) n. Originally a handmade product imported from Japan, made by gluing woven native grasses onto paper backing. Printed wallpapers or dimensional wall coverings, especially vinyl, which simulates the same. [Pg.469]

Strippable paper n. A chemically treated stock tough enough to resist tearing, with a special formulation, which permits a release of the wall covering from the adhesive. This makes it possible to remove an entire strip from the wall without wetting. It is referred to as dry strippable. [Pg.935]

Vinyl wall-coverings can be categorised in general as vinyl coated papet paper backed vinyl or solid sheet vinyl and/or fabric backed vinyl and rigid vinyl sheet without a backing. [Pg.64]

Repainting leaded surfaces and the use of contact paper and paper wall coverings should not be considered for abatement... [Pg.242]

Nonwovens are used as backings for textile wall coverings and also as replacements for traditional paper or PVC coverings. The preferable requirements of nonwovens for wall coverings are that they have enough dimensional stabUity and strength to withstand apphcation to the wall whilst maintaining a smooth and consistent surface once in place. [Pg.414]
