Video. Video projectors provide resolution suitable for National Television Systems Committee (NTSC) level images. Display performance of 380-480 TV lines is typical. 

Computer signal sources can follow many different, and sometimes incompatible, standards. Multisync projectors are common. Generally speaking, projectors are downward compatible. In other words, most graphic projectors can function as data projectors, HDTV projectors, and video projectors most data projectors can also display HDTV and video, and so on.

Decide whether you are going to memorize, use speakers cards, notes or speak from overheads or slides. Select and make your supporting visual material. Do you need photos, films, videos or other demonstration items Obtain, make or order them. A computer-based program such as PowerPoint allows you to create notes and overheads, either for overhead projector or video projector. Ensirre that it can be used at the venue. Ensure that the laptop low power and screensaver settings are off. 

In a hardware analogy, many different classes of device generate a video signal and many different implementations accept it. Each of those devices (such as a monitor or projector) has other interfaces as well. 

A "PC projection panel" and overhead projection of the spreadsheet greatly eases viewing of the computer video output. The PC projection panel provides an overhead projection of the computer screen so that all review team members can easily and simultaneous observe and comment on the recorded information as it is being recorded. The PC projection panel consist of a liquid crystal display (LCD) panel that duplicates data, text or graphics, generated from the computer screen. When placed on an overhead projector the LCD image is projected onto a projector screen or a wall. Personal computer screens are viewable by only two or three personnel at a time. A typical review involves at least 5 personnel, so the PC projection pad enables all participants to view the software worksheet as it is prepared (note a "reflective" type of overhead projector will not operate with the PC projection panel, direct illumination from below the panel is required). Further details of a typical PC projection panel are provided in Appendix F. 

Microfabricated devices capable of switching optical light beams, also termed MOEMS, have gained attention about a decade ago for applications like optical fiber switches, microscanners, or digital micromirror arrays. Particularly, the latter devices have found widespread application in video projection systems for office presentations, home cinema, and very recently, the replacement of classical projectors in movie theaters. Other applications, for example, for head-up displays on auto windscreens are in development. In all cases, arrays of small micromirrors are used for the modulation of light. 

Most presentations are more dynamic if they include diagrams, photographs, videos, or sound recordings, like the one shown in Figure 19. A multimedia presentation involves using stereos, overhead projectors, televisions, computers, and more. 

For 16-mm films, 16-mm movie projectors are needed. Now video cassettes of 16-mm films are available, which can be seen on TV. with V.C.P. or V.C.R. 

The laser projector is said to have infinite focus. To accomplish this, optics are necessary to keep the scanned laser beam thin. Such optics allow a video image to remain in focus from approximately 4 ft to infinity. For high-resolution applications, the focus is more critical. 

Infinite focus A characteristic of a laser projector in which the video image remains in focus from approximately four feet to infinity. 

Liquid crystal displays have been widely employed in high-information content systems and high-density projection devices. The steady progress in active-matrix Hquid crystal displays, in which each pixel is addressed by means of a thin film transistor (TFT), has led to the development of fuU-color video TFT-addressed liquid crystal light valve (LCLV) projectors. Compared with conventional CRT-based projectors. 

The color projector described in this section is capable of light output of over 1300 lumens with a contrast ratio of 200 1 or greater. The projector uses a 750-W xenon arc lamp as the light source. The video resolution is 1600 (H) x 1200 (V). 

Before the actual presentation, practice is essential. (It may surprise you to learn that most faculty do not practice their lectures.) If possible, practice in front of real audience members who have agreed to give you feedback. Otherwise, try taping (audio or video) your presentation and critiquing it yourself. If none of these techniques will work, go to a quiet room and give your presentation out loud to yourself. In any case, it is best if you use the actual equipment (overhead projector, slide projector, and/or conputer) that you will use in the actual presentation. If this is inpossible, use hard copies of your visuals.
