Pancuronium is a synthetic compound now frequently used and not likely to cause histamine release or ganglionic blockade. It is approx. 5-fold more potent than d-tubocurarine, with a somewhat longer duration of actioa Increased heart rate and blood pressure are attributed to blockade of cardiac M2-cholinoceptors, an effect not shared by newer pancuronium congeners such as vecuronium and pipecuronium. 

Vecuronium Vecuronium, l-[(2j3,3a,5a,16)3,17)3,)-3,17-( j5 (acetyloxy)-2-(l-piperidinyl) androstan-16-yl]-l-methylpiperidinium bromide (15.1.9), differs from panuronium only in the extent of alkylation. Only the piperidine substituent on C g of the steroid skeleton is transformed into a quaternary salt [15,16]. 

Vecuronium is used for the same indications as pancuronium. A synonym of this drug is norcuron. 

Duchenne muscular dystrophy yerapam may decrease neuromuscular transmission in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and prolong recovery from the neuromuscular blocking agent vecuronium. Decrease in verapamil dosage may be necessary. 

Drugs that may affect penicillins include allopurinol, aminoglycosides (parenteral), aspirin, beta blockers, chloramphenicol, erythromycin, ethacrynic acid, furosemide, indomethacin, phenylbutazone, probenecid, sulfonamides, tetracycline, and thiazide diuretics. Drugs that may be affected by penicillins include aminoglycosides (parenteral), anticoagulants, beta blockers, chloramphenicol, cyclosporine, oral contraceptives, erythromycin, heparin, and vecuronium.
