Pipecuronium bromide is a bisquaternary steroid analogue of pancuronium. In vitro pipecuronium reversibly inhibits both human red cell acetylcholinesterase and human plasma cholinesterase to an extent that might have clinical implications (1). Its potency is similar to that of pancuronium and its onset and duration are also approximately the same. Accumulation can occur (2), and maintenance doses should be one-quarter to one-sixth of the initial dose to achieve a similar effect, depending on the anesthetic technique used.

Arduan pipecuronium bromide, arecoline is an alkaloid from Areca catechu (Palmae). It is a MUSCARINIC CHOLINOCEPTOR AGONIST (experimental use), and is hypotensive. It has purgative actions and can be used as a vermifuge and taenifuge in veterinary medicine. Aredia pamidronic acid. 

Pipecuronium bromide, a long-acting neuromuscular blocking agent, exhibits minimal cardiovascular effects. Like pancuronium and vecuronium, pipecuronium undergoes some hydrolysis but is excreted primarily unchanged in the urine with very small amounts in the bile. Pipecuronium may be used in patients with coronary artery disease, but neuromuscular blockade is prolonged in patients with renal failure.
