The maximum number of latent variables is the smaller of the number of x values or the number of molecules. However, there is an optimum number of latent variables in the model beyond which the predictive ability of the model does not increase. A number of methods have been proposed to decide how many latent variables to use. One approach is to use a cross-validation method, which involves adding successive latent variables. Both leave-one-out and the group-based methods can be applied. As the number of latent variables increases, the cross-validated will first increase and then either reach a plateau or even decrease. Another parameter that can be used to choose the appropriate number of latent variables is the standard deviation of the error of the predictions, SpREss ... [Pg.725]

A validation method used to evaluate the sources of random and systematic errors affecting an analytical method. [Pg.687]

Most of these methods are commonly employed in the downstream processing of the desired ceU culture technology product. Hence, most of the time it is only necessary to demonstrate that the designed process is reducing the putative risk factors to acceptable levels. Validation methods employed for risk reduction are discussed in the Hterature (25). [Pg.234]

PBDs were not observed for layers less than 23 /rm thick and the PBD film potential threshold varied from 4-5 kV at 23/rm to 11 kVatl75/rm [228]. A later study, possibly using a less valid method for measuring film potential, reported smaller threshold values [ 29 ]. The later study concluded that if film breakdown voltage is less than about 4 kV at 20/rm and about 8 kV at 200/rm, PBDs cannot be produced. This is shown schematically in Figure 2-6.5. [Pg.39]

The marketing information primarily identifies either problems or opportunities. Problems will relate to your existing products and services and should indicate why there has been a decline in sales or an increase in returns. In order to solve these problems a search for possible causes should be conducted and one valid method for doing this is to use the Cause and Effect Diagram. Opportunities will relate to future products and services and should indicate unsatisfied wants. There are three ways of collecting such data by observation, survey, and experiment. [Pg.142]

From a practical standpoint, it is often difficult or undesirable to position the stems of the dial indicators at 90° angles to the rim and/or face surfaces of the coupling halves. For this reason, brackets are used to mount the devices on the shaft or a non-movable part of the coupling to facilitate taking readings and to insure greater accuracy. This is a valid method because any object that... [Pg.916]

Cross-Validation methods make use of the fact that it is possible to estimate missing measurements when the solution of an inverse problem is obtained. [Pg.414]

Mechanical recycling, feedstock recycling and thermal energy recovery are all valid methods of recycling plastics. This is the conclusion reached by an ecobalance study coordinated by the TUV Rheinland. According to this study, a mixture of all three recycling methods provides... [Pg.79]

Decision analytic models, or simulation models of clinical decision analysis, usually involve the creation of a treatment decision/outcome tree based on a synthesis of expert opinion, sometimes using validated methods of canvassing opinion such as recruiting a Delphi panel (Hatziandreu et al, 1994 Einarson et al, 1995). The decision tree... [Pg.46]

Independent reference and validated methods by selected expert analysts - multiple organizations and laboratories Two or preferably three or more independent reference and/or validated methods, each based on an entirely conceptually different principle of measurement, independent in theory and experimental procedure, applied in replicate, by selected expert analysts, of high reputational quality and recognized competence working independently in an ad... [Pg.54]

According to SANCO/825/00, a fully validated method consisting of some or all of the components mentioned above must be reported. Provided that sufficient validation data are published by official manuals, further recovery experiments are not necessary. [Pg.26]

Full descriptions of validated methods must be provided, including details of equipment, materials, and conditions used as described in Section 4.1. In addition, the following items must be addressed/apply ... [Pg.33]

Although we speak generally of validated methods , only the performance of a method applied to a particular range of materials (matrices) is reported. The possibility of matrix interferences or the efficiency of cleanup steps may vary with matrix type. For that reason, methods should be validated in all matrix types, which differ significantly. In the context of the validation of enforcement methods by applicants, significant difference is not a well defined term. To avoid any dispute about completeness of validation, five material types had been selected for crops, which usually... [Pg.106]

In the NMKL procedure, verification is an important aspect of continuous documentation of the quality of on-going analyses performed with validated methods. [Pg.122]

In any residue program, but particularly in an LSMBS, a well-established and validated method should be used. The alternative is to carry out method development and validation in parallel with the smdy, a course of action that is not recommended. [Pg.241]

Technology providers use quantitative immunoassays to determine expression data of field material for regulatory submissions. Regulatory authorities require that expression levels of introduced proteins in various plant parts be determined by quantitative, validated methods. Immunoassays are also used to generate product characterization data, to assess food, feed and environmental characteristics, to calculate concentrations for toxicology studies and to obtain tolerance exemption or establish tolerances for pesticidal proteins. [Pg.651]

Validated methods (CRMs, proof of correct digestion, documentation)... [Pg.591]

Both the determination of the effective number of scatterers and the associated rescaling of variances are still in progress within BUSTER. The value of n at the moment is fixed by the user at input preparation time for charge density studies, variances are also kept fixed and set equal to the observational c2. An approximate optimal n can be determined empirically by means of several test runs on synthetic data, monitoring the rms deviation of the final density from the reference model density (see below). This is of course only feasible when using synthetic data, for which the perfect answer is known. We plan to overcome this limitation in the future by means of cross-validation methods. [Pg.28]

We offer current technologies and valid methods for a wide range of activities teaching, investigation, work, business and even daily life. We encourage all our readers to join us and become part of the solution to climate change, rather than the problem. [Pg.314]
