The bearing health can be best described by plotting a ZNjP versus coefficient of friction curve. Figure 13-10 shows such a curve where Z is the lubricant viscosity in centipoise, N the rpm of the journal, and P is the projected area unit loading. 

The unit loading on the pad ean be varied by either adjusting the are length or the axial length of the bearing pad. 

Another approach is to recognise that initially for a flat sheet, the axial stiffness is high but the transverse stiffness is relatively low. As the corrugation depth increases then the transverse stiffness increases but at the expense of the axial stiffness. Different test results are available to the designer wanting friction and wear data as well as the usual mechanical short and long term data, corrosion resistance, readings, and so on. One unit firing low-sulfur western coal and utilizing a hot precipitator is described in Table V. This unit was unable to meet particulate emissions and opacity requirements consistently due to an excessive amount of fine particulate which was not being collected. A chemical treatment program was established and several different chemical formulations were evaluated for their ability to reduce opacity since electrical response was not deemed to be the problem.

Turbine bleeder pressure is roughly proportional to unit load at less than one half unit load, the bleeder pressure becomes too low to power the boiler feed pump turbines. In using a bottom load case packer for a packaging operation, the containers are accumulated and unitized into the selected case pattern. As the unitized load is indexed onto the lift platform, a case blank is unfolded from the case magazine over the product. The lift platform raises the product into the opened case. The case is indexed out of the loading area and is top and bottom sealed by a hot melt glue system. The bottom load case packer is the best type of case packer for containers that require stacking, pads, or automatic case insertion. 

There are basically two approaches in stretch wrapping turntable and overhead rotary arm. The turntable stretch wrap system is accomplished by rotating the load on a mechanically driven platform and applying multiple layers of film. With overhead rotary arm systems, the unit load remains stationary and the film application unit spirals around the load. On some units, a top platen can also be added to the rotary arm system to ensure that cases and the top slip sheet on a bulk pack remain stable during the stretch wrap operation. 

Economics and specific necessary location of facilities often require the use of saturated foundation materials subject to large settlements. Preloading the site prior to construction, with unit loads equal to or greater than the anticipated unit foundation loads, can greatly reduce the settlement of the structure that will be built.
