Stretch Wrap

Nonfood packaging categories include dmgs and pharmaceuticals, textile goods, bags (merchandise, shipping, carry-out, T-shirt, and laundry), shrink wrap, stretch wrap, clear boxes, and many more. [Pg.383]

Mica is shipped by tmck (20.4 t max) or railroad (27.2 t max). Bulk tmckloads and rail shipments, such as palletizing, bagging, and shrink- or stretch-wrappiag, are made to avoid extra costs. Mica is usually palletized and shrink- or stretch-wrapped for shipment. [Pg.293]

Polybutenes enjoy extensive use as adhesives, caulks, sealants, and glaring compounds. They are used as plasticizers in mbber formulations with butyl mbber, SBR, and natural mbber. In linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) blends they induce cling to stretch-wrap films. Polybutenes when modified at their unsaturated end groups with polar fiinctionahty are widely employed in lubricants as dispersants. Blends of polybutene with polyolefins produce semisoHd gels that can be used as potting and electrical cable filling materials. [Pg.487]

Impact damage occurred to one of 48 10 kg polypropylene tubs of calcium hypochlorite, each closed with a polythene lid, all supported on a wooden pallet and stretch-wrapped round the base with polyethylene film. The spilled material was swept up and discarded, and the pallet was moved to another part of the warehouse, and some 30 mins, later flames were seen at the base of the pallet [1]. Ignition was attributed to contact between residual solid hypochlorite on the pallet and lubricant drips on the concrete floor from fork lift traffic. Application of a dry powder extinguisher had little effect on the fire, but use of a 40 1 water extinguisher led to rapid escalation of the fire as contact between hypochlorite... [Pg.1319]

Stretch wrap is a strong, flexible film that can be stretched to take the shape of the contained goods. It is used at home to over-wrap fresh meat and other leftovers or industrially to secure shipping cartons to pallets. It is usually made of LLDPE, LDPE or PVC. [Pg.63]

Stretch wrapping is the method of unitizing and protecting pallet loads or groupings of individual containers of product by applying layers of plastic film. The film is mechanically stretched to increase its yield and create a tension force around the load. [Pg.2666]

There are basically two approaches in stretch wrapping turntable and overhead rotary arm. The turntable stretch wrap system is accomplished by rotating the load on a mechanically driven platform and applying multiple layers of film. With overhead rotary arm systems, the unit load remains stationary and the film application unit spirals around the load. On some units, a top platen can also be added to the rotary arm system to ensure that cases and the top slip sheet on a bulk pack remain stable during the stretch wrap operation. [Pg.2666]

Metal, composite, or plastic containers received on unitized pallets are usually packed with a shrink or stretch wrap shroud to maintain integrity of the load. Manual or automated depalletizers are available that orient the cans onto single-lane conveyors. The cans are inverted for cleaning and enter the filler. Filling is accomplished by timed flow or piston-type, volumetric action fillers. The end or side of... [Pg.2671]

Use For trash bags, packaging and stretch wrap, and shipping sacks. [Pg.1293]

These were primarily developed to provide good bonding for palletised loads of plastic sacks and bags. Without the additives plastic sacks would tend to destack and slide off when the pallet is moved or jerked. However, palletised loads can be stabilised by alternative methods, e.g. shrink and stretch wrapping. [Pg.209]

Polyethylene, as LDPE, LLDPE or a mixture or blend involving combinations of LDPE, MDPE, HDPE, EVA, etc., finds a wide usage in bags, sacks, sachets, overwraps, shrink wraps, stretch wraps, etc. Most deep freeze packs, for example, use LDPE or an LDPE mixture which is produced from a reel on a form fill seal type machine. However, as many of these packs are up to 100% printed, even ink of 2-5 Pm could be considered as a separate layer which modifies some of the physical and chemical properties. As all polyolefins need a surface (oxidative) treatment to ensure a good print key, this or any other surface treatment process may further modify the film properties. [Pg.258]

Although only a few single layer materials may appear to be used for pharmaceuticals, the largest use is likely to be found in shrink and stretch wrapping. As these may confer some barrier properties as well as acting as a means of collation and tamperevidence, they are expanded on below. [Pg.258]

Stretch wrap films are elastic in nature, hence possess a memory. The film must have high elasticity, and once in position must not relax and lose tension (i.e. become loose). [Pg.261]

Linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) is the predominant stretch wrap material, but films based on LDPE combinations, EVA and plasticised PVC are also found. Stretch materials can be produced by various processes, i.e. from lay flat tubing, casting, etc. The latter process gives orientation in the machine direction which assists stretch in the wrap around direction. Cling properties required for grip may be achieved by incorporating a cling additive or coextrusion to the outer surface(s) of a more tacky material, e.g. EVA. [Pg.261]
