Length of specimen

It is recommended that whenever possible, the purchaser, upon receipt, shall test all new wire rope purchased in accordance with specifications. If a rope fails to render satisfactory service, it is impractical to retest such used rope. It is therefore required that the purchaser shall preserve at least one test specimen of all new rope purchased, length of specimen to be at least 10 ft (3.05 m), properly identified by reel number, etc. Care must be taken that no damage will result by storage of specimen. [Pg.582]

Figure 4 The Monument Draw acapulcoite contains centimeter scale veins of Fe,Ni metal and troilite formed during the first melting of asteroids. In the absence of silicate melting, these veins were unable to migrate substantial distances and, thus, would not have contributed to core formation. Length of specimen is 7.5 cm (Smithsonian specimen USNM 7050). Figure 9 The Brenham pallasite contains areas of both olivine-free regions and areas more typical of pallasites. In this specimen, pallasitic material is crosscut by a metallic region, suggesting that silicate-metal mixing at the core-mantle boundary was a dynamic process. Length of specimen is 13 cm (Smithsonian specimen USNM 266). Figure 9 The Brenham pallasite contains areas of both olivine-free regions and areas more typical of pallasites. Strain rate, defined as (fractional change in length of specimen)/seconds. [Pg.34]

In the formulas, e t), e(t), a t) is respectively strain rate, strain and stress. C is the elastic wave velocity in pressure bar, 5060 m/s. is the elastic modulus of bar material, 200 Gpa. A, L is respectively cross-sectional area and length of specimen. The impact velocity of experiment was controlled within 2-6 m/s. Because the impact velocity of bullet is provided by high pressure gas, the impact speed of coal and limestone samples will vary slightly. [Pg.53]

Tensile strength strain to failure e and tensile modulus E are results of these tests. The meanings and dimensions in the equations (1) to (3) are as follows -F Tensile force at failure (N) A Fibre cross-section (m ) Al Elongation of fibre (m) l Gauge length of specimen (m). [Pg.290]
