Long-term data

Data transfer The data acquisition unit will not be used for long-term data storage. Therefore, it must be able to reliability transfer data into the host computer. The actual time required to transfer the microprocessor s data into the host computer is the only non-productive time of the data acquisition unit. It cannot be used for acquiring additional data during the data transfer operation. Therefore, the transfer time should be kept to a minimum. Most of the available systems use an RS 232 communications protocol that will allow data transfer at rates of up to 19,200 baud. The time required to dump the full memory of a typical microprocessor can be 30 minutes or more. 

Equipment history reports should also be available. These reports provide long-term data on the condition of plant equipment and are valuable for analysis. 

Different test results are available to the designer wanting friction and wear data as well as the usual mechanical short and long term data, corrosion resistance, readings, and so on. The data presented include the load and velocity capabilities of a bearing material as expressed by the product of the unit load P based on the projected bearing area and linear shaft velocity V. The symbol PV denotes the important property of the pressure-velocity relationship. 

Chemical The chemical resistance of plastics is well known as reviewed early in this chapter (OTHER BEHAVIOR, Chemical Resistance). The data serves as an excellent initial guide. Most material makers have developed long-term data for commonly used chemicals. Great care must be exercised in this selection because environmental conditions are very impertinent to include in the selection. Note when two materials do not attack a plastic when used separately may be troublesome when used in combination or diluted with water. 

System control and data acquisition are done with a personal computer using Paragon software. About 150 input and output modules were used for the two laboratory cells. This is expensive and may seem excessive, but a lot of the inputs and outputs are used for safety purposes so that the cell can operate unattended 24 hr a day, 7 days a week to get good long-term data. 

The developments in the treatment of RA are tempered by the lack of evidence describing the long-term safety and efficacy of the BRMs. In addition, the cost associated with the medications can be a deterrent to use. Long-term data are needed to determine if patients receiving BRM therapy early in the course of disease have reduced disease activity, reduced joint deformities and disability, improved quality of life, and continued function as productive members of society. Cost analyses of long-term data may indicate that the increased expenses associated with BRMs are offset by the costs avoided for the treatment of advanced RA. 

CD-R disks are recordable disks that enable data to be written either once only, or in sessions on a multisession disk, allowing data to be updated and/or added to until the disk is full. However, the data on a CD-R disk cannot be erased or rewritten, hence CD-R disks are Write Once media, and are ideally suited to long-term data storage. 

Axillary lymph nodes should be sampled for staging and prognostic information. Lymphatic mapping with sentinel lymph node biopsy is a new, less invasive alternative to axillary dissection however, the procedure is controversial because of the lack of long-term data.

Long-term data on commercial applications, whether successful or not, are difficult to obtain (see Section 12.6). A range of failures are described in detail in [24],... 

Eventually, even well-validated methods become dated and obsolete due to improvements in technology. When this occurs, development of a new method using the new technology should occur and start a new round of method-validation activities. Any change to the method should take into account the effect on the long-term data for the product. Comparison of the validation for the old and new procedures should verify that the change will provide some benefits before it is accepted.

In some cases, the duration of exposure that is or might be experienced by the population of interest might not match that involved in the study. So, for example, dose-response information from relatively short-term exposures might in some cases be the only available information when the concern is long-term, or even lifetime exposure in the population that is the subject of the risk assessment. If the risk assessment is to be completed before new, long-term data can be developed, some justification will have to be found for extrapolation of the short-term data to estimate the consequences of long-term exposure. 

PNECs themselves are preferentially extrapolated from chronic toxicity data or, if no long-term data are available, acute toxicity data [51] they generally refer to algae, daphnia or fish toxicity. The membrane composition of Quantro II has been under continuous research for 19 months. Early samples were put on test in order to establish a long-term data base for this chemistry. While that early composition has been modified to achieve higher flux and rejection, its durability can be judged from Table I. Table I plots data obtained daily over the time period indicated. Curves on all tables have been smoothed to avoid daily fluctuations. The initial long-term data are promising however, further long-term studies are needed to confirm the initial promise of serotonin reuptake inhibitors in the treatment of panic disorder, and comparative studies of agents within this class of drugs are needed to clarify their relative profiles. 

In a scenario where significant change occurs at the intermediate condition, the retest period or shelf life shorter than the period covered by long-term data is appropriate but should not exceed the period covered by long-term data. 

Long-Term and Accelerated Stability Data Show Little Change over Time and/or Variability Under this scenario, the proposed retest period or shelf life can be up to one and a half times as long as but not more than six months beyond the period covered by long-term data without the support of statistical analysis. 

In this scenario, the retest period or shelf life should be based on long-term data. 

Product to be Stored at Room Temperature For products to be stored at room temperatures the extent of extrapolation will depend on the evaluation of the results from the short-term, intermediate, and long-term data. If no significant change at the accelerated (short-term) condition is observed, then the long-term data are evaluated for change and variability ... 

Long-Term Data with Small or No Change over Time and Small or No Variability In this case a statistical analysis may be considered unnecessary... 

Data for which statistical analysis does not apply The proposed shelf life can be up to 1.5 times but should not be more than 6 months beyond the period covered in the stabihty study for the long-term data. This will require relevant supporting data to show that the drug product will meet all attribute acceptance criteria by the end of the proposed shelf life period.
