Nearly every substitution of the aromatic ring has been tolerated for the cyclization step using thermal conditions, while acid-promoted conditions limited the functionality utilized. Substituents included halogens, esters, nitriles, nitro, thio-ethers, tertiary amines, alkyl, ethers, acetates, ketals, and amides. Primary and secondary amines are not well tolerated and poor yield resulted in the cyclization containing a free phenol. The Gould-Jacobs reaction has been applied to heterocycles attached and fused to the aniline.

Note, however, that this calculation involves an assumption that either the °Thxs and/or the °Thxs/ Th remains constant at the outer surface of the nodule throughout its growth. That this is not exactly hue is shown by the fact that the growth rate history for the crast is not identical using the two chronometers. For instance, the outermost three Thxs data imply a slow growth rate, while the same three points, when normalized to Th, imply a rapid growth rate. The problem of variable inihal conditions limits the usefulness of °Thxs dating of Mn nodules and crasts. 

Dry eye is a frequent cause of eye irritation. A lack of a single diagnostic test for the condition limits the available epidemiologic data. One study estimated the prevalence of dry eye in the United States population age 65 and older at 14.6%, which is approximately 4.3 million Americans.29... 

The assumption of a steady state corresponds to laminar flow of the liquid. This is fulfilled only under certain conditions (limited velocity of the liquid, smooth phase boundary between the flowing liquid and the other phase, etc.). Otherwise, turbulent flow occurs, where the local velocity depends on time, pulsation of the system, etc. Mathematically the turbulent flow problem is a very difficult task and it is often doubtful whether, in specific cases, it is possible to obtain any solution at all. 

A typical result of conventional pumping in low conductivity and transmissivity formations is increased, and sometimes rapid, drawdown with steep gradients, with corresponding low recovery rates. This condition limits the influence of the conventional pumping well. MPE overcomes this limiting factor with the application of a vacuum. The vacuum enhancement of MPE also can overcome the capillary forces that can trap contaminants within the capillary zone. This allows better recovery of LNAPL, which tends to accumulate in the capillary zone at the air-water interface. 

Equations (2.14) and (2.15) are important under sewer conditions, not just because nongrowth limited conditions may exist. The equations are also the basis for description of the kinetics when the growth of the biomass takes place under substrate or other external environmental conditions limiting the growth rate.

By understanding the boundary layers and the general operating condition limits, plant operators can optimise performance. Small incremental adjustments to the dependent variables, current density and electrolyte concentrations will provide linear plots of the independent variables, voltage and current efficiency, in the safe operating zone. Non-linearity will occur when a limit is reached. 

The above conditions limit the search space by removing candidates that are most likely not to satisfy the property constraints.

Most acid-labile benzyl alcohol linkers suitable for the attachment of carboxylic acids to insoluble supports can also be used to attach aliphatic or aromatic alcohols as ethers. The attachment of alcohols as ethers is less easily accomplished than esterification, and might require the use of strong bases (Williamson ether synthesis [395,552,553]) or acids. These harsh reaction conditions limit the range of additional functional groups that may be present in the alcohol. Some suitable etherification strategies are outlined in Figure 3.31. Radiation and Ignition Studies. The existence of cool flame radiation prior to the occurrence of autoignition in a motored engine was discovered early by Peletier, van Hoogstraten, Smittenberg, and Koojman (109). Since then there has been a constant effort to define the engine conditions limiting the occurrence and extent of cool flame radiation with various hydrocarbons (25, 26, 37, 71, 72, 77, 107). 

Igniter powders are energetic materials which can react with destructive force. Under confinement reaction is rapid and the hazard is increased from both the increased pressure and possible fragments which may result from bursting of the container. Igniter powders must burn and also have a very low brisance. These conditions limit such mixts to combinations of fuels and oxidants such as perchlorates, chlorates, nitrates, permanganates, oxides or peroxides mixed with sulfur, charcoal or aromatic compds such as naphthalene or oil... 

The conditions limiting the choice of the half-wave potential for a given reaction series will be discussed first.
