Types of communication

The prerequisites for communication are an ability to create information in one being, an ability to transmit this information and an ability to perceive the created information by another being. All three of these prerequisites strongly influence the nature of communication for example, animals that live in darkness or are blind would be unlikely to use a visual system. Despite these restrictions, it is clear that there are still many possible ways to make use of the possibilities of creation, medium and perception to communicate. We will now examine the three fundamental communication techniques that form the basis for human communication.

Communication is the process of sending information from one location to another or from one person to another by means that enable the sender to send the information to the intended recipient and the intended recipient to receive, retrieve, and interpret the information. Locations and individuals can be geographically dispersed or within the confines of an organization, where information can flow between individuals with various types of communication including direct contact. 

Detection devices (also called sensors) are designed to detect a specific type of event (such as smoke, intrusion, etc.). Depending on the type of event they are designed to detect, sensors can be located inside or outside of the facility or other asset. The A/D board can reside either in the detector, an interface box, or in the computer. If the board is in the computer, it will have analog input terminals similar to a strip chart recorder or it will be connected to an interface box that will have this type of connector. If the A/D card is in the detector, the detector will have some type of digital interface port and a cable to connect it to the computer.
