Morphological parameter

Considering existing microscopical techniques, one can find that non-destmctive information from the internal stmcture of an object in natural conditions can be obtained by transmission X-ray microscopy. Combination of X-ray transmission technique with tomographical reconstmction allows getting three-dimensional information about the internal microstmcture [1-3]. In this case any internal area can be reconstmcted as a set of flat cross sections which can be used to analyze the two- and three-dimensional morphological parameters [4]. For X-ray methods the contrast in the images is a mixed combination of density and compositional information. In some cases the compositional information can be separated from the density information [5]. Recently there has been a... [Pg.579]

The general principles of the structure of glassy polymers and their rubber-modified derivatives, and of the molecular and morphological parameters have been thoroughly investigated. [Pg.277]

Two important morphological parameters characterizing ball-milled powders are the particle and grain size of constituent phases within the powders. In our laboratory, the size measurement of the powder particles is carried out by attaching loose powder to sticky carbon tape and taking pictures under secondary electron (SE) mode in the SEM. The images are then analyzed by an image analysis software. The size of the powders is calculated as the particle equivalent circle diameter, ECD = AA/nf, where A represents the projected particle area. Usually from -300 to 700 particles are analyzed for each batch. [Pg.71]

The issue of the relation between the form and the productivity in filamentous microorganisms is of utmost importance for a variety of reasons ranging from purely fundamental to purely economic. This importance resulted in the multiplicity of research timely published and reviewed. However, the field remains descriptive but not predictive. It is not yet possible to make a molecular model or algorithm, where one uses morphological parameters to come up with the output and the assortment of metabolites. [Pg.260]

A preliminary stndy on the viscoelastic behaviour of polyolefin foam sheets with different chemical (PE and PP) and cellular structure by DMA, in the low freqnency and low compression ranges, is presented. DSC and SEM are also used to determine the morphological parameters of the samples. A connection between the morphological properties (apparent degree of crystallinity), type of cellular structure, homogeneity, cell size and shape, cell wall thickness) and the viscoelastic behavionr, a basic key for the development of mechanical and insnlating applications, has been established. 9 refs. [Pg.82]

The Euler number may easily be calculated from the voxel-based data set of a 3D reconstruction. For example, the test object is fragmented into voxels, each of them representing a single solid itself. It is possible to compute the 3D morphological parameters of these solids by taking into account the following basic rule ... [Pg.255]

The macroscopic behavior of a saturated porous material undergoing a dissolution of its linear elastic solid matrix is therefore described by the classical Biot s theory, where the poroelastic properties now depend on the morphological parameter . Formally, plays the role of a damage parameter accounting for the dissolution. [Pg.324]

Estimates for the macroscopic drained stiffness tensor Chom(f) as a function of the morphological parameter can be derived from various micromechanical techniques. The micromechanical approach classically refers to the concept of strain concentration tensor, denoted here by A. By definition, in an evolution... [Pg.324]

The morphological parameter C which controls the damaging effect of cracks appears to depend only on the crack density and the crack radius. In the case of cracks, the macroscopic mechanical loading defined by Ii or p is expected to induce a strong heterogeneity of the mechanical affinity, due to the stress/strain concentration in the vicinity of the crack tips. [Pg.326]

For example, if temperature and particle morphology parameters are fixed, then fFcan vary with the bulk concentration of electrolyte, c. At low values of c, W is observed to take on its largest values. As c increases, the value of W drops until it achieves a minimum, at W= 1.0. The bulk electrolyte concentration at which this minimum occurs is termed the critical coagulation concentration (ccc), or flocculation value. The flocculation process has now become transport-controlled and, therefore, is rapid. Thus... [Pg.242]

It should be noted that up to now, quantitative estimates of the uniformity of gas-filled plastics have not been carried out, although the importance of this concept for the estimation of the morphology of foamed plastics is obvious. Indeed, for researchers and technologists the quantitative determination of the uniformity of foams should become one of the basic criteria of the quality of articles, along with other morphological parameters. On the other hand, for theoretical calculations, it should be remembered that the coefficient of uniformity is a brutto characteristic of foam heterogeneity and incorporates the total non-uniformity of the dis-... [Pg.23]

In further discussions we will frequently use another morphological parameter, the volume fraction. It will be recalled that, in the general case, a plastic foam is not a two-phase but a three-phase system solid - gas - liquid . [Pg.24]
