Dispersion, geographic

Suppliers—and customers—are more favorably disposed to work with distributors that have broad geographic representation than those that are only active in a few areas, and usually is a requirement for processors with multiple plant locations. This should never be a problem for a distributor, as it is not necessary to own a number of warehouses. There are many perfectly adequate public warehouses that can be very effectively utilized on an as-needed basis, without the need of owning, staffing, and managing substantial real estate assets. For example, the Denver area is home to a number of mostly small processors, whose need for overnight deliveries can be best served by keeping stocks in local public warehouses. [Pg.25]

Communication is the process of sending information from one location to another or from one person to another by means that enable the sender to send the information to the intended recipient and the intended recipient to receive, retrieve, and interpret the information. Locations and individuals can be geographically dispersed or within the confines of an organization, where information can flow between individuals with various types of communication including direct contact. [Pg.599]

Finally, a remote monitoring capability allows a single human monitor to oversee a number of production lines—colocated or geographically dispersed, even globally—from a central monitoring station. The capacity is cost effective, allows for fewer better-qualified quality assurance personnel, and allows the controlled invitation of outside regulatory personnel (from FDA, EMEA, etc.) to view a process to discuss possible problems or improvements. [Pg.357]

Because of the intermittent nature of wind, there are concerns that if this source of power reaches a certain size in relation to other power sources in a national electricity grid, the grid may destabilize. The European Wind Energy Association argues, however, that the geographical dispersion of wind farms is likely to even out the flow once such farms reach a critical mass. [Pg.8]

Companies uncertainty about industry capacity. We found that realistic price cyclicality could be generated in the model only when the industry as a whole was unaware how much new supply was in the pipeline. This is an extremely unlikely situation in most chemical product sectors therefore we rejected this hypothesis. However, exceptions might occur in new industries or obscure sectors where the participants are geographically dispersed and which receive little, if any, media or market research coverage. [Pg.202]

This chapter successfully attempted a quantitative documentation of floral species of district Kachchh, with an objective to prepare a near complete list of ethnobotanically useful species and prioritize them for conservation measures. Documentation of traditional knowledge of plant uses was quite voluminous, as reflected by the fact that around 900 persons from 85 geographically dispersed villages provided more than 12000 pieces of plant use related information. Representatives from different age, sex, educational status, socioeconomic classes and occupational types were adequately covered during the interview. More importantly, this information was collected from the representative common rural population so that other than commonly reported knowledge many unique uses and applications of plants are also recorded. [Pg.45]

Ubiquity defines the geographical dispersion of potential damages (intragenerational justice). [Pg.305]
