Complexes 79 show several types of chemical reactions (87CCR229). Nucleophilic addition may proceed at the C2 and S atoms. In excess potassium cyanide, 79 (R = R = R" = R = H) forms mainly the allyl sulfide complex 82 (R = H, Nu = CN) (84JA2901). The reaction of sodium methylate, phenyl-, and 2-thienyllithium with 79 (R = R = r" = R = H) follows the same route. The fragment consisting of three coplanar carbon atoms is described as the allyl system over which the Tr-electron density is delocalized. The sulfur atom may participate in delocalization to some extent. Complex 82 (R = H, Nu = CN) may be proto-nated by hydrochloric acid to yield the product where the 2-cyanothiophene has been converted into 2,3-dihydro-2-cyanothiophene. The initial thiophene complex 79 (R = R = r" = R = H) reacts reversibly with tri-n-butylphosphine followed by the formation of 82 [R = H, Nu = P(n-Bu)3]. Less basic phosphines, such as methyldiphenylphosphine, add with much greater difficulty. The reaction of 79 (r2 = r3 = r4 = r5 = h) with the hydride anion [BH4, HFe(CO)4, HW(CO)J] followed by the formation of 82 (R = Nu, H) has also been studied in detail. When the hydride anion originates from HFe(CO)4, the process is complicated by the formation of side products 83 and 84. The 2-methylthiophene complex 79... [Pg.14]

A stable diarylstannanethione has been synthesized by the reaction of an extremely bulky stannylene with either styrene episulfide95 or less than one equivalent of elemental sulfur.9 If the 2,4,6-tris[bis(trimethylsilyl) methyl]phenyl group (Tb) is replaced by the smaller mesityl group, no monomeric products are observed thus the stability of the stannanethione is attributed to the demand of the substituents. [Pg.312]

The first examples of mononuclear disulfur and diselenium complexes of platinum have been described.330 Reduction of the sterically hindered complex trans- PtC 2( P M e2A r)2] (Ar = 2,4, 6-tris[bis(trimethylsilyl)methyl]phenyl, 2,6-bis[bis(trimethylsilyl)-methyl]-4-[tris(trimethylsilyl) methyl]-phenyl) with lithium naphthalide in THF solution affords the platinum(0) species [Pt(PMe2Ar)2]. Oxidative addition of elemental sulfur or selenium yields the dichalcogenatoplatinum(II) complexes of the type [PtE2(PMe2Ar)2] (E = S, Se) containing a unique PtE2 ring system. The complexes are stable to air in the solid state, but slowly decompose in solution after several days at room temperature. [Pg.715]

Silver(I) complexes are known with the tris(pyrazolyl)borate [HB(pz)3] and the methyl, phenyl, bromo, or trifluoromethyl-substituted derivatives. The structure of the silver tri(pyrazolyl)borato species has been a puzzle since it was first reported.385,386 It was suggested that the structure could be oligomeric, but recently the crystal structure of the compound [Ag HB(3,5-Me2pz)3 ]2 shows that it has a dimeric structure387 where the silver(I) centers are tricoordinated by a bidentate arm of one ligand and a monodentate arm of the other ligand (29). The related complexes [Ag HB(4-Brpz)3 ]2, [Ag HB(4-Mepz)3 ]2, [Ag HB(3,5-Me2pz)3 ]2, [Ag HB(3-Mepz)3 ] , [Ag B(pz)4 ], and... [Pg.928]
