Eight samples from each set (A and D) were split into two groups, one incubated in 0.15 M phosphate buffered solution (PBS) and the other in PBS containing 0.1% of the phase transfer catalyst, tricapryl methyl ammonium chloride (Aldrich Aliquot 336) (PBS, catalyzed), both at pH 7.4. However, mass-spectroscopic studies 37> could not confirm these findings. If a Brown-Laubengayer synthesis is performed utilizing BCI3 and a mixture of ammonium chloride and methyl-ammonium chloride 43> separation by distillation does not yield 2,4,6-trichloroborazines substituted unsymmetrically at the nitrogen, i.e. H2(CH3)NsB3Cl3 and H(CHs)2N3B3Cl3. In the undivided cell the base is neutralized by anodically generated methyl-ammonium chloride and isomerization is thus prevented. 1,4-Cyclohexadiene itself is not reduced under the conditions employed.

Some organic compounds contain ionic bonds. For example, the structure of methyl-ammonium chloride (CH3NH3C1) cannot be drawn using just covalent bonds. That would require nitrogen to have five bonds, implying ten electrons in its valence shell. The correct structure shows the chloride ion ionically bonded to the rest of the structure. 

Aliquat 336 is tricapryl methyl ammonium chloride. Two diluted solutions of this are required, a l%v/v and a 10%v/v solution in MIBK. Aliquat 336 is available from a number of sources, including Phasesep R D Chemical Company, Deeside Industrial Estate, Queensferry, Flintshire, Gt. Britain, and General Mills Corporation, Minneapolis, MN 55415, U.S.A. 

Since most of the studies concerning protein extraction with reverse micelles have used a representative surfactant, AOT and trioctyl methyl ammonium chloride (TOMAC), to form reverse micelles, the protein extraction studies using a novel surfactant shed light on the important factors in the design of reverse micelles suitable for protein extraction. In particular, a comparative investigation concerning protein extraction efficiency with a variety of synthetic surfactants clarified the role of the hydrophobic tails of the surfactant on protein extraction [9]. 

Para-rosaniline Chloride.—This carbinol is known as para-rosaniline, carbinol base. It is not a dye but when treated with acids it yields salts which are colored and which possess the properties of dyes. These salts result from one of the amino groups reacting with the acid, forming an ammonium salt, the tri-valent nitrogen of the amine becoming penta-valent in the salt, as in the formation of methyl ammonium chloride from methyl amine.
