Translucent finish

Ability to produce a sufficient degree of translucent finish is desirable in order to facilitate visual inspection after inhibition. [Pg.291]

Varnish works by combining resin with a solvent that keeps the resin in liquid form until painted onto your wood surface. Once applied, the solvent evaporates, leaving behind the hard, translucent finish. Working with varnish necessarily releases fumes into the air—that s the solvent evaporating— so most varnish solvents are harmful to breathe. Always work outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. For a longer job, or if you plan to work with varnish frequently, consider using a respirator to protect your lungs. [Pg.242]

Defoamers. Foam is a common problem in papermaking systems (27). It is caused by surface-active agents which are present in the pulp slurry or in the chemical additives. In addition, partially hydrophobic soHd materials can function as foam stabilizers. Foam can exist as surface foam or as a combination of surface foam and entrained air bubbles. Surface foam usually can be removed by water or steam showers and causes few problems. Entrained air bubbles, however, can slow drainage of the stock and hence reduce machine speed. Another serious effect is the formation of translucent circular spots in the finished sheet caused by permanently entrained air. [Pg.16]

The finished outer surfaces of the assemblies may be coated with a peelable coating compound which can be easily sprayed and air dried. Translucent sandwich panels for the side-facades were also made of glass-fiber-reinforced polyester composites (see Figure 1.8). The sandwich panels consisted of two layers separated by a composite fiber sheet with trapezoidal corrugations.
