Varnish solvents

Silicone and elementosilicone varnishes (solvents are toluene, acetone, butyl alcohol, etc.). [Pg.355]

Flame retardant for solvent and hot melt adhesives, plasti-sols, lacquers, varnishes, solvent finishing of textiles, etc. [Pg.635]

Sulfur dyes are used for cotton in work clothes. Solvent dyes are mono- or diazoic compounds used to dye oils, greases, varnishes, solvents, and cosmetics. Solvent Yellow 1 (PAAB), a monoazoic compound, was positive in patients sensitized to stockings. [Pg.920]

Properties Amber-colored, viscous liquid hardens upon oxidation. Bp 350C, flash p 352F (177C), mp 45C, refr index 1.4980, d 1.02. Soluble in ether and most varnish solvents, insoluble in water. Combustible. [Pg.517]

USE Solvent for fats, waxes, resins, oils, rubber, paints, and varnishes. Solvent for cellulose esters and ethers. Used for solvent extraction in many industries. In degreasing, in dry cleaning. In the manuf of organic chemicals, pharmaceuticals, such as chloroacetic acid. [Pg.1517]

OTHER COMMENTS used in the manufacture of furfuralphenol plastics used in the manufacture of varnishes solvent for cellulose acetate, nitrate eotton, and gums used in the synthesis of furan derivatives and in the preparation of pyromueic acid also used as an insecticide, fungicide and germicide reagent in analytical chemistry. [Pg.645]

Products and Uses Various applications include lacquer, paint, varnish, solvents and removers, cleaning preparations, detergent preparations, cements, cosmetics, and deodorants. [Pg.111]

Only the effects resulting directly from the exposure to paints and varnish solvent are discussed in this chapter. For die effects of other solvents, see Chapter 20.1. [Pg.1243]

Carnauba Wax kar- n6-bo, k -no- u-bo (1854) n. Extremely hard wax obtained from the leaves of a Brazilian tree. It appears on the market in several grades, such as bleached, yellow, fatty gray, and chalky gray. The wax has the following approximate constants mp, 84°C, Sp gr, 0.998 acid value, 2 saponification value, 80 iodine value, 13. It is a constituent of wax polishes, and has some application in matt, overprinting, and baking varnishes. Its solubility is of a very low order in most varnish solvents and other constituents. Syn Brazil wax. [Pg.161]

Reducers n. Varnishes, solvents, oils, or waxy, or greasy compounds that are employed to reduce tack or consistency of the ink for use on a press. [Pg.823]

Varnish works by combining resin with a solvent that keeps the resin in liquid form until painted onto your wood surface. Once applied, the solvent evaporates, leaving behind the hard, translucent finish. Working with varnish necessarily releases fumes into the air—that s the solvent evaporating— so most varnish solvents are harmful to breathe. Always work outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. For a longer job, or if you plan to work with varnish frequently, consider using a respirator to protect your lungs. [Pg.242]

By midnineteenth century, iron boats began to displace wooden boats. This prompted naval stores producers to separate turpentine from oleoresin to meet the growing demand for a paint and varnish solvent. In the 20th century, the demand for rosin in paint and varnish was so great that its production reached 8.7 million pounds in 1900 and over 10 million pounds in 1910, the highest in the history of gum naval stores. Then wood rosin dominated the... [Pg.22]
