Training protective gear

Personnel who may be called upon to use such devices risk bodily harm. Consequently, they should be properly trained in the use of plugging equipment, provided with proper personal protective gear, and trained in its use. [Pg.104]

CWC-related chemicals must be handled with great care. Persons handling toxic chemicals must be specially trained for the work. When toxic samples are handled, decontamination solution, protective masks, and autoinjectors of nerve agent antidotes must always be available, and no one must ever work alone. Individual protective gear such as laboratory coats, chemically resistant protective gloves, and safety goggles are essential during sample preparation. Toxic samples must always be prepared in a fume cupboard. [Pg.173]

Highly trained volunteers or clinical staffs observe clients as they arrive at the clinic to screen for obvious signs of illness. Standard precautions (protective gear, etc.) should be followed in accordance with EMS and HAZMAT guidelines. Those with illness and symptoms are directed immediately to the Sick Station. [Pg.466]

As threats of chemical and biological warfare become more routine, it is imperative that soldiers can wear their protective gear. Frequent practice should increase comfort and decrease problems with claustrophobia and embarrassment. In those who cannot initially tolerate the gas masks, treatment should be initiated as close to the front lines as possible, to minimize casualties in training and in combat. [Pg.395]

Masks and protective clothing arc needed to defend against many toxic chemicals. Reduction in combat efficiency from wearing protective gear is estimated to be up to 50 percent. Proliferators may not provide the same measure of protection that is afforded U.S. troops. Training and protection reduce the effectiveness of chemical weapons. [Pg.22]

V. Victim management Victim management includes rapid stabilization and removal from the Exclusion Zone, initial decontamination, delivery to emergency medical services personnel at the Support Zone perimeter, and medical assessment and treatment in the support area. Usually only the HazMat team or other fire department personnel with appropriate training and protective gear will be responsible for rescue from the hot zone, where skin and respiratory protection may be critical. Emergency medical personnel without specific training and appropriate equipment must not enter the hot zone unless it is determined to be safe by the Incident Commander and the medical officer. [Pg.515]

Each shift should have at least one trained First Aider. No food or drink should be taken in the plant. Special care must be taken if NaCN is formed in the HT furnace and all necessary protective gear must be available and worn when dealing with cyanide residues [14,15]. If there is a risk of cyanide poisoning, an antidote should be available to be administered by a qualified praetitioner and always replaeed before the shelf life has elapsed. [Pg.444]

Logistical Support and Facilities. The only specific requirements for the threat category IV are for survey and cleanup equipment such as dosimeters, survey and contamination meters, protective gear, decontamination supplies, and recovery tools at the national level. In several areas, particularly those in which the risk of a transportation accident is high, local response services are equipped with dosimeters and survey meters. If so, training (and periodic refresher training) must be provided, equipment must be periodically verified and calibrated, and the emergency services staff must be provided with valid procedures. [Pg.149]

Another issue to remember is that the general duties imposed on employees under occupational health and safety legislation apply to chemical hazard control. Employees, having received appropriate training and proper protective gear, protective procedures, and protective equipment or plant, must ... [Pg.374]

The radial transducers should be placed within three inches of the bearing, and there should be two radial transducers at each bearing. Care should be taken not to place the probe at the nodal points. The two probes should be mounted 90° apart ( 5°) at a 45° ( 5°) angle from each side of the vertical center. Viewed from the drive end of the machine train, the x probe will be on the right side of the vertical, and the i probe will be on the left side of the vertical. Figures 4-10 and 4-11 show protection systems for a turbine and a gear box respectively. [Pg.169]

IV. Personal protective equipment. Personal protective equipment includes chemical-resistant clothing and gloves and protective respiratory gear. The use of such equipment should be supervised by experts in industrial hygiene or others with appropriate training and experience. Equipment that is incorrectly selected, improperly fitted, poorly maintained, or inappropriately used may provide a false sense of security and may tail, resulting in serious injury. [Pg.515]
