Bacterial examination could be used to confirm the presence of (and perhaps identify) the species. Where soluble oil is being degraded, or where a noticeable loss of anti-corrosion properties has been detected, a check on the pH (alkalinity/acidity) of the system would be advantageous. [Pg.871]

Good quality steel is used and electrozinc is preferred for washing machines. Steel is pretreated with iron phosphate for economy electrozinc with a fine crystal zinc phosphate. No primer is normally used 25-40/im of finish is applied direct to metal. The required properties are best obtained with a thermosetting acrylic or polyester/melamine-formaldehyde finish. Self-reactive acrylics are usually preferred these resins contain about 15 Vo 7V-butoxymethyl acrylamide (CH2=CH —CO —NH —CHj—O —C4H,) monomer and cure in a manner similar to butylated melamine-formaldehyde resins. Resistance or anti-corrosive properties may be upgraded by the inclusion of small amounts of epoxy resin. Application is usually by electrostatic spray application from disc or bell. Shapes are complex enough to require convected hot-air curing. Schedules of 20 min at 150-175°C are... [Pg.631]

There has been much activity in this field of corrosion inhibition in recent years which appears to have been prompted by health and safety requirements. As with engine coolants, the use of nitrites, particularly where amines may also be present, needs to be considered carefully. Nitrites have been widely used in cutting, grinding, penetrating, drawing and hydraulic oils. Suggested replacements for nitrites and/or amines make use, inter alia, of various borate compounds, e.g. monoalkanolamide borates. Molybdates have also been proposed in conjunction with other inhibitors, e.g. carbox-ylates, phosphates, etc . Water-based metalworking fluids usually contain other additives in addition to corrosion inhibitors, e.g. for hard-water stability, anti-foam, bactericidal proderties and so on. Thus, claims are made for oil-in-water emulsions with bactericidal and anti-corrosion properties. [Pg.800]

Enhanced anti-corrosion properties are also reportedly achieved by mill additions of lithium titanate, lithium aluminate or magnesium titanate to the host glass frit . [Pg.904]

Let us add here that the fabrication of polycrystalline semiconductive films with enhanced photoresponse and increased resistance to electrochemical corrosion has been attempted by introducing semiconductor particles of colloidal dimensions to bulk deposited films, following the well-developed practice of producing composite metal and alloy deposits with improved thermal, mechanical, or anti-corrosion properties. Eor instance, it has been reported that colloidal cadmium sulfide [105] or mercuric sulfide [106] inclusions significanfly improve photoactivity and corrosion resistance of electrodeposited cadmium selenide. [Pg.233]

The surfactant and anti-corrosion properties of PEs also find use in textile auxiliaries -low foaming gives further benefits and C8 diesters are also reported to give antistatic effects on synthetic fibres. [Pg.124]

CNC CHLORITE is a modified sodium chlorite product designed to give the excellent bleaching with fiber protection that is normal for sodium chlorite but with the added advantage of anti-corrosion properties to stainless steels and reduced hazards in handling. [Pg.136]

Lubricating oils for precision instruments and large clocks must have excellent oxidation stability, good anti-wear and anti-corrosion properties and retain their viscosity over a long period of time. Sometimes small amounts of gel-forming soaps, e.g. an aluminium soap, are added in order to reduce the creeping effect. [Pg.287]

Some additives used as anti-wear agents can also have anti-corrosion properties such as TCP, sebacic acid and azelaic acid. However, corrosion inhibition is a fine balance of competition with the anti-wear/load-carrying capability of the lubricant. Like the anti-wear additive, the corrosion inhibitor is designed to react with the metal surface. Some corrosion inhibitors specifically aimed at preventing static water corrosion of ferrous metals compete with the anti-wear additive for the metal surface to the extent that the resulting lubricant has poorer anti-wear properties than non-corrosion-inhibited lubricants. [Pg.359]

The range of conventional and high performance, milky soluble cutting fluids that ensure high cooling rates, good lubrication and excellent anti corrosion properties. [Pg.208]

On metals, while promotion of adhesion of the multi-coat system is equally important, an added requirement is the control of corrosion. In metal primers, anti-corrosive properties are achieved by incorporating either pigments that are anodic to the metal substrate or pigments, such as zinc phosphate, that inhibit corrosion by other mechanisms. [Pg.309]

Salt spray test n. A test applied to metal finishes to determine their anti-corrosive properties, involving the spraying of common salt (sodium chloride) solution on the surface of a coated steel panel. [Pg.856]

Primers are applied to the filled or unfilled surface, to promote adhesion, to prevent absorption of later coats by porous surfaces and to give corrosion resistance over metals. As their name implies, they prepare the base material for further paint application. Special pigments improve the anti-corrosive properties. [Pg.92]

The microbe resistance of metal working fluids is important because it governs the retention of cooling and lubricating performance, anti-corrosion properties (pH), skin compatibility and long-term effectiveness without interruption in production. [Pg.459]

Recently a cationic electrodeposit paint with better anti-corrosion properties has been developed and is replacing anionic electrodeposit paint. This has made it necessary for the ultrafilter maker to develop a new ultrafiltration membrane, because conventional membranes suitable for anionic electrodeposit paint suffer some decline in filtration rate with the passage of time, when they are used for cationic electrodeposit paint. This problem has been solved by developing a modified membrane for cationic electrodeposite coating. This new membrane shows better flux stability than the conventional type. [Pg.676]

In this field, apart from providing matrices for composite materials, epoxy resins are widely used to realize primers with the aim of coating steel, aluminum and composite surfaces before painting. These new kinds of primers show higher anti-corrosive properties than traditional ones (e.g. zinc chromate based primers) and may be applied directly over old one-part primers to provide a solvent-proof barrier coat. [Pg.109]

Exhibits emulsifying, penetrating and anti-corrosion properties. Solutions of 10% form gels in soft and hard water, solutions of 0.1% are cloudy. [Pg.120]

EIS results indicate that the passive films of AkCoCrFeNi alloys become increasingly thicker and more dispersive with an increasing x. Therefore, Ipass increases with x. As x value increases to 1.00, the inductance effect appears in the equivalent circuit for severe dissolution of A1 and Ni-rich phase. As for the effect of chloride on the anti-corrosion property, chloride eases the passive layer to form metastable ion complexes and further dissolve into H2SO4. With an increasing chloride concentration and A1 content, the metastable ion complexes easily form, allowing Epu to shift to a more active region. Additionally, the microstructure of both C-0 and C-0.25 is single FCC phase, while those of C-0.50 and C-1.00 are duplex FCC-BCC and complex BCC-ordered BCC phase, respectively. [Pg.153]
