The Problem of Documentation

We may not say, 1 shall probably come, if we have strong reasons for thinking that we shall be prevented. .. or say, It will probably rain tomorrow in the absence of fairly solid meteorological evidence. Our probability-terms come to serve, therefore, not only to qualify assertions, promises and evaluations them-selves, but also as an indication of the strength of the backing which we have for the assertion, evaluation, or whatever. It is the quality of the evidence or argument at the speaker s disp r al which determines what sort of qualifier he is entitled to include in his statements whether he ought to say, This must be the case, This may be the case, or This cannot be the case whether to say Certainly so-and-so, Probably so-and-so, or Possibly so-and-so.  [Pg.59]

It is quite difficult to use the same SLCM repeatedly from one project to another without any change. Normally a change or an adaptation, no matter if it is big or small, is necessary. In that case we will face the problem of documenting the adaptation and keeping the FSM plan consistent with the SLCM. That means additional effort. [Pg.140]

A method to circumvent the problem of chalcogen excess in the solid is to employ low oxidation state precursors in solution, so that the above collateral reactions will not be in favor thermodynamically. Complexation strategies have been used for this purpose [1, 2]. The most established procedure utilizes thiosulfate or selenosulfate ions in aqueous alkaline solutions, as sulfur and selenium precursors, respectively (there is no analogue telluro-complex). The mechanism of deposition in such solutions has been demonstrated primarily from the viewpoint of chemical rather than electrochemical processes (see Sect. 3.3.1). Facts about the (electro)chemistry of thiosulfate will be addressed in following sections for sulfide compounds (mainly CdS). Well documented is the specific redox and solution chemistry involved in the formulation of selenosulfate plating baths and related deposition results [11, 12]. It is convenient to consider some elements of this chemistry in the present section. [Pg.81]

Many states have developed universal immunization databases to document pediatric and adult vaccination status. This eliminates the problems of lost immunization records if a child changes health care providers. [Pg.1250]

For this it must be questioned whether the stipulations in REACH and in the relevant guidance documents are sufficient to solve the explained problem of RISKCYCLE. The represented stipulations for the determination of exposure scenarios in the waste stage are, in our view, sufficiently detailed as well as extensively and professionally prepared to solve the problems of RISKCYCLE through REACH implementation. [Pg.150]

A more severe issue with QDs, however, is the problem of dark or nonradiant dots in aqueous solution. Yao et al. (2005) documented that a significant fraction of commercially available... [Pg.492]

Illustrative performance properties for a "general purpose polycarbonate," and for the same resin modified with the additive formulations "700" (without PTFE) and "800" (with PTFE) are summarized in Table IV (adapted from reference 32). It is clear that the objective of minimal effect on performance properties has been attained for this system. It is evident that flame retardant effectiveness attained with minimal levels of additive can provide optimum solutions to the problem of decreasing flammability without sacrifice in performance properties. Work documented to date suggests that in depth studies of thermal degradation such as reported for aromatic sulfonates in polycarbonates (28) would be rewarding for other systems. [Pg.249]

In the synthesis of five-membered cyclic nitronates (5), the problem of stereoselectivity is in preparing these products with desired relative configurations of the stereocenters at the C-4 and C-5 atoms (see Scheme 3.12). Generally, the trans configuration of these substituents is most preferable. Several procedures giving exclusively this configuration were documented (see,e.g. (50, 55, 58, 63, 68)). [Pg.449]

The purpose of documentation is to explain the essential parts of a requirement, design, or implementation in a way that would not be obvious from the code itself. Think of all the documentation parts of development as writing this explanation. It includes model diagrams, examples, informal sketches, formal specifications, storyboards, tables, and so on only because they make the explanation clearer, uncover hidden issues and problems, and help you focus on some things while deferring details of others. [Pg.233]

This problem is found wherever different software deals in the same area Most of us have encountered the problems of translating from Word to or from some other documentation tool. The writers of the import, export, and translation modules must begin by building a model of the document structure. [Pg.575]

The problem of the immunogenic nature of many human recombinant DNA proteins, and the potential to generate antibodies to a normal human protein, is of special interest to the immunotoxicologist. For example, 3 of 16 patients administered the rDNA-derived interferon-a (clone A) developed antibodies of the IgG class that were undetectable prior to or during therapy (Gutterman et al., 1982). These antibodies were capable of in vitro neutralization of interferon activity, although in vivo neutralization of interferon has not been documented. Since there are several different subtypes of interferon-a s, some contain epitopes not present on their own interferon subtype. Similarly, two patients treated with interferon-/ for many months developed high-titered antibody, which in one case was correlated with an inability of the patient s fibroblasts to produce interferon (Vallbracht et al., 1982). [Pg.432]

The problem of rotation of neutron stars in the framework of General Relativity Theory was solved before the discovery of pulsars and the important contribution of the Armenian scientists in this work is well documented. With all... [Pg.1]

The lowest theoretical interparticular volume of perfectly packed uniformly sized spherical beads is calculated to be about 26% of the total available volume. In practice, even the best packed columns still contain about 30-40% void volume in addition to the internal porosity of the beads. The problem of interparticular volume does not exist in systems in which a membrane is used as the separation medium. Both theoretical calculations and experimental results clearly document that membrane systems can be operated in a dead-end filtration... [Pg.89]

Researchers for the German government have documented a variety of reasons why substitution fails to be carried out. For example, they detail how cement manufacturers in Scandinavia solved the problem of skin contact with cement containing hexavalent chromium back in the 1980s, but the information was not diffused to other European manufacturers. [Pg.10]

The correlation seems initially documented by Duchamp s Note 122 where, besides hurriedly sketching a Bragdonlike fourth-dimensional spiral (see fig. 23), Duchamp additionally tells himself to study the problem of the rod thrown into relief. Noircarme s functionally analogous fourth-dimensional example of la tige en ressort (as Duchamp described it) reads as follows ... [Pg.303]
