Example 1 One-dimensional CA

For a one-dimensional CA, the valne of the cell at time t - denoted by Ci t) evolves in time according to a rnle F that is a fnnetion of Cj(t) and other cells that are within a range r (on the left and right) of Ci t)  [Pg.9]

Since each cell takes on one of k possible valnes-that is, Cj(t) G 0,1, 2. k -the rnle F is completely defined by specifying the valne assigned to each of the possible (2r -f l)-tnple confignrations for a given range-r neighborhood  [Pg.9]

Since F itself assigns any of k values to each of the possible (2r + 1)- [Pg.9]
