Taper Cutting

For components that will operate in pipelines (Part PL) at hoop stresses of 20% or more than the SMYS, and for all components in piping (Part IP), if the nominal wall thickness of the adjoining ends does not vary more than 2.4 mm (%2 in-)/ no special treatment is necessary, provided the joint design meets the requirement of the WPS. Where the nominal internal offset is more than 2.4 mm (%2 in.) and there is no access to the inside of the pipe for welding, the transition shall be made by a taper cut on the inside end of the thicker section. The taper angle shall not be greater than 30 deg. [Pg.50]

These consist of solid side panels which are kept apart by integral hydraulic struts which may be adjusted to suit the width of the trench. The bottoms of the side paneis have a tapered cutting edge. This enabies them to be dug in or iowered by crane into a... [Pg.148]

A picture of the surface micromachined beam steering mirror is shown in Figure 4.9 [10]. The central mirror is 500 pm in diameter and is suspended from a fixed frame by a gimbal mount. The fixed frame has been lifted out of plane by hinged sidewalls, which are locked into place by dovetails in the frame that fit into tapered cuts in the sidewalls. Lifting the frame out of plane overcomes the limited electrostatic gap that can be... [Pg.82]

Figure 4-164 shows a steel body core bit with a long-taper, stepped profile fitted with impregnated natural diamond blocks as the primary cutting elements. The bit has no inner cone. Since there is no specific code for the natural diamond/steel body combination, the letter O (other) is used as the cutter type/ body material code. The profile code 3 is used to describe the long outer taper with little or no inner cone depth. The hydraulic design code 5 indicates a fixed... [Pg.807]

Threaded connectors (Figure 40.34) are made with standard pipe threads cut on the inside surface (female). The end of the pipe is threaded with outside threads (male). Standard pipe threads are tapered slightly to ensure tight connections. The amount of taper is approximately inch in diameter per foot of thread. [Pg.623]

The Needle Flame Test is designed to simulate a small flame as might be encountered from a small electrical malfunction in an appliance or a piece of office equipment. The test apparatus consists of a hypodermic needle 35 mm in length with a bore of 0.5 mm and an outer diameter not exceeding 0.9 mm. The hypodermic needle has the tapered end cut off to avoid any interference with the flame. The gas used is butane. With the axis of the burner vertical,... [Pg.289]

Nematodes are long, cylindrical unsegmented worms that are tapered at both ends. Because of their shape, they are commonly referred to as roundworms. Some intestinal nematodes contain a mouth with three lips, and in some the mouth contains cutting plates. Infection occurs after ingestion of embryonated eggs or tissues of another host that contain larval forms of the nematodes. [Pg.621]
