Tablets dividing

The addition of a Whatman filter tablet or of a little diatomaceous earth (Super Cel. etc.) assists in the filtration of the finely divided manganese dioxide. [Pg.759]

The biotin market is divided between agricultural and human use, with —90% of biotin used in the animal health care market and —10% for the human nutritional market. The major producers of biotin are Hoffmann-La Roche, Lon2a, E. Merck-Darmstadt, Rhc ne-Poulenc, Sumitomo Pharmaceutical, E. Sung, and Tanabe Seiyaku (100). Worldwide production of biotin in 1994 was approximately 60 metric tons. The Hst price for pure biotin in 1995 was — 7.00/g whereas, the Hst price for technical feed-grade biotin was — 5.50/g. Biotin is used in various pharmaceutical, food, and special dietary products, including multivitamin preparations in Hquid, tablet, capsule, or powder forms. One of the commercially available products of i7-biotin is Britrit-1, which is a 1% biotin trituration used in food premixes. [Pg.33]

MISSELLANEOUS ANTICONVULSANTS. Valproic acid (Depakene) is unrelated chemically to the other anticonvulsants. This drug is absorbed rapidly when taken orally Tablets should not be chewed but swallowed whole to avoid irritation to the mouth and throat. The capsules may be opened and the drug sprinkled on a small amount of food, such as pudding or applesauce This mixture must be swallowed whole immediately and not chewed. Zonisamide is administered orally once a day or in divided doses. The dose may be increased by 100 mg day every 1 to 2 weeks until control of the seizures is obtained or the patient reaches the maximum dosage of 600 mg/d. [Pg.260]

When tiie drug is given orally, the nurse instructs the patient not to chew the capsule or tablet but to swallow it whole For faster absorption, the drug is given with a full glass of water when the patient s stomach is empty, either 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. If gastrointestinal upset occurs, the nurse can administer the drug with or immediately after meals. Sustained-released tablets should not be crushed or divided. [Pg.375]

For patients who have difficulty swallowing dilti-azem, tablets can be crushed and mixed with food or liquids. However, the patient should swallow the sus-tained-released tablets whole and not chew or divide them. When nifedipine is ordered sublingually, the capsule is punctured with a sterile needle and the liquid squeezed under the tongue or in the buccal pouch. [Pg.386]

Ursodiol may slow progression of liver disease. It improves bile flow and may displace toxic bile acids that accumulate in a cholestatic liver, stimulate bicarbonate secretion into the bile, offer a cytoprotective effect, and reduce elevated liver tests. Ursodiol is typically dosed at 15 to 20 mg/kg per day in two divided doses and may be rounded to the nearest tablet size.5,7... [Pg.253]

Mycophenolate mofetil is available in 250 mg capsules and 500 mg tablets, an oral suspension (100 mg/mlL, in cherry syrup), and an injectable.11 Usual doses of mycophenolate mofetil range from 1000 to 3000 mg/day in two to four divided doses. The conversion between oral and IV mycophenolate mofetil is 1 1. Enteric-coated mycophenolic acid is available in 180 and 360 mg tablets. For conversion between mycophenolate mofetil and enteric-coated MPA, 1000 mg mycophenolate mofetil is equivalent to 720 mg enteric-coated MPA.26,29 The recommended starting dose of enteric-coated mycophenolic acid is 720 mg given twice daily.11 It appears that conversion of mycophenolate mofetil to enteric-coated mycophenolic acid is safe, but more studies are needed to determine the exact role of enteric-coated MPA in the immunosuppressive armamentarium. Mycophenolic acid trough concentrations can be monitored, but they are not recommended routinely. [Pg.840]

In patients with normal gallbladder function, effective agents for eradication of chronic carriage include amoxicillin (3 g divided three times a day in adults for 3 months), trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (one double-strength tablet twice a day for 3 months), and ciprofloxacin (750 mg twice daily for 4 weeks). In patients with anatomic abnormalities, such as biliary or kidney stones, surgery combined with antibiotic therapy is indicated. [Pg.1120]

All tableting presses employ the same basic principle—they compress the granular or powdered mixture of ingredients in a die between two punches with the die and its associated punches being called a station of tooling. Tablet machines can be divided into two distinct categories ... [Pg.316]

Most pharmacopoeias include a simple weight test on a specified number of tablets that are weighed individually. The arithmetic mean weight and relative standard deviation (i.e., mean divided by standard deviation) of these tablets is then calculated. Only a specified number of test tablets may lie outside the prescribed limits. These specifications vary depending upon the type of tablet and amount of active present. [Pg.329]

Zentner and coworkers [24,26] utilized this information in their development of a system that releases this drug over a 24 hr period. The use of NaCl to modulate the release of diltiazem presents an interesting problem in that the concentration of the solubility modifier must be maintained within certain limits and below its saturation solubility within the device. To solve this problem, core formulations were developed that contained both free and encapsulated NaCl. The encapsulated NaCl was prepared by placing a microporous coating of cellulose acetate butyrate containing 20 wt% sorbitol onto sieved NaCl crystals. The coated granules released NaCl over 12-14 hr period via an osmotic mechanism into either water or the core tablet formulation. The in vitro release profile for tablets (core I devices) containing 360 mg of diltiazem HC1 and 100 mg of NaCl equally divided between the immediate release and controlled release fractions... [Pg.441]

Using the relative response factors that you calculated in the last Section, correct each peak area by dividing by the appropriate response factor. For each injection, calculate the amount Of aspirin and caffeine present, expressing the results as mg per tablet. [Pg.174]

MRH Barium chlorate 5.06/83, calcium chlorate 5.61/77, potassium chlorate 6.07/76, sodium bromate 4.98/80, sodium chlorate 7.32/75, zinc chlorate 6.11/76 Dry finely divided mixtures of red (or white) phosphorus with chlorates, bromates or iodates of barium, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium or zinc will readily explode on initiation by friction, impact or heat. Fires have been caused by accidental contact in the pocket between the red phosphorus in the friction strip on safety-match boxes and potassium chlorate tablets. Addition of a little water to a mixture of white or red phosphorus and potassium iodate causes a violent or explosive reaction. Addition of a little of a solution of phosphorus in carbon disulfide to potassium chlorate causes an explosion when the solvent evaporates. The extreme danger of mixtures of red phosphorus (or sulfur) with chlorates was recognised in the UK some 50 years ago when unlicenced preparation of such mixtures was prohibited by Orders in Council. [Pg.1886]

Other Tests. The so-called tumbler tests are usually used for testing material like coke, coal, iron ore pellets or tablets. They can be divided into drum tests and ball mill type tests. The latter type is used to derive both the Hardgrove Index and the Bond s Work Index, which are often used to classify the material friability as described in Sec. 3. They are generally more suited to coarse material. The Hardgrove Grindability test requires an initial size range form 595 to 1190 microns. [Pg.453]

Tramadol should be initiated at a lower dose (100 mg/day in divided doses) and may be titrated as needed for pain control to a dose of 200 mg/ day. It is available in a combination tablet with acetaminophen and as a sustained-release tablet. [Pg.30]
