For example, a study could be done to select between one of two materials when developing a dust transport container for a baghouse filter. The intended audience may be the designers, the results being used to indicate which one of the two materials provides the lowest environmental impact. As recently reviewed by Gupta and Garge (2002), there are some materials known to penetrate the skin readily and appear to be capable of acting as penetration enhancers for certain selected drugs. These enhancers sometimes work more effectively in the presence of solvents such as ethanol or propylene glycol. A well-known example is the use of the insect repelent DEET (N,N diethyl-m-toluamide) as an enhancer for corticosteroids or the use of isopropyl myristate and propylene glycol for diclofenac sodium. Indeed, cyclodextrins have also been employed as penetration enhancers for hydrocortisone although how this system functions is not easy to visualize (see later section on cyclodextrins). 

In conclusion, historically it appears that there have been several AHR-mediated effects in seabirds in the Great Lakes, which probably contributed to reproductive failure and an increased incidence of live-abnormalities (in cormorants), but most of these were due to the effect of AHR PCB congeners, primarily PCB 126. The exceptions may be Lake Ontario and Saginaw Bay, where 2378-TeCDD concentrations and all PCDD/F concentrations, respectively, were very high in the 1970s. Contemporary AHR-mediated effects in Great Lakes seabirds are more likely to be subtle, such as effects on immune system function and fatty acid synthesis, rather than population-level effects such as reduction in reproductive success. Earlier calculation on many electron atomic systems under plasma was performed by Stewart and Pyatt [58], who estimated the variation of IP of several atoms using a finite temperature TF model. Applications of the density functional theory on these systems were reviewed by Gupta and Rajagopal [57], The calculations on many electron systems are mostly concerned with the hot and dense plasmas with the application of the IS model, or from general solutions of the Poisson equation for the potential function.
