Sustainability history

An interesting development in organic chemistry has been the growth in the studies of saccharide (sugar) chemistry to put beside the more conventional carbon/nitrogen framework chemistry that has a sustained history in the laboratory from Perkin s time to the present day. One of the first to take up the new area was G.W.J. Fleet (1980) but it has developed so quickly that he is now one of nine members of the Oxford Glycochemistry Centre, which is headed by... 

Pharmaceutical Applications. Sucrose has a long history in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals. It imparts body to symps and medicinal hquids and masks unpleasant tastes. Sucrose also functions as a diluent to control dmg concentrations in medicines, as an ingredient binder for tablets, and to impart chewiness to the latter. Sustained-release medications and protective tablet glazes are prepared using sucrose (41). Sucrose-based sugar pastes are used to promote wound healing (58).

Whilst the pigment has a favourable toxicity profile and a long history of application in sensitive applications such as cosmetics and in food-contact applications, in order to meet the requirements of discerning customers practice sustainable procurement and look for products with a beneficial life cycle analysis. This paper, therefore, outlines the results of a study which shows how a commitment to sustainable manufacture is an essential addition to the favourable toxicity profile. Areas for improvement are recognised and options for renewable energy resources are discussed.

Given this political history of hydropower in Switzerland, a standard for sustainable hydropower operation was likely to provoke major political reactions. However, expectations associated with market liberalization also partly motivated actors to reconsider their original interest positions. However, solutions could not be found because the interlocked nature of the decision problem represented a classical social dilemma [11]. A social dilemma is present if decisions of two actors depend on each other and if both actors are forced to select a sub-optimal strategy of conduct to minimize their potential losses. An optimal solution would only be realized if each party could tmst the other.
