Both the chemical composition and structural configurations of the polymeric support play an important role in cation permeability (48). Pu(IV) was deliberately chosen for our study since its alpha radiolysis might cause appreciable structural damage to the polymeric support. Descriptions of some of the hydrophobic supports that we have evaluated and their physical characteristics of porosity, pore size, thickness, and critical surface tension are listed in Table 6. [Pg.400]

How much worse must information become before we accept the responsibility to support descriptive taxonomy This worsening state of information credibility threatens our ability to verify identifications, store and retrieve new observations, precisely communicate findings among biologists, or confidently describe new species as they are found. Further, it increases the likelihood of economic losses resulting directly from taxonomic mistakes (e.g. Miller and Rossman, 1995). Must we wait until spectacularly costly mistakes are made before we take action to assure the quality and growth of taxonomic information ... [Pg.14]

The force fields available are MM2, MM3, AMBER, OPLSA, AMBER94, and MMFF. The asterisk ( ) indicates force fields that use a modification of the original description in the literature. There is support for user-defined metal atoms, but not many metals are predefined. MM2 has atom types for describing transition structures. The user can designate a substructure for energy computation. [Pg.344]

The printed pubHshed document which represents the patent rights granted by the Federal Government can be a complex Hterary work. There are specific and rigid legal requirements for the description, disclosure, and definiteness which support these affirmative rights and enable enforcement of those rights by the inventor or owner of the patent. The basis for this fiiU and complete disclosure of the invention in the patent is clearly articulated in the U.S. Constitution. [Pg.26]

Fig. 2. Downs cell A, the steel shell, contains the fused bath B is the fire-brick lining C, four cylindrical graphite anodes project upward from the base of the cell, each surrounded by D, a diaphragm of iron gau2e, and E, a steel cathode. The four cathode cylinders are joined to form a single unit supported on cathode arms projecting through the cell walls and connected to F, the cathode bus bar. The diaphragms are suspended from G, the collector assembly, which is supported from steel beams spanning the cell top. For descriptions of H—M, see text. Fig. 2. Bond lengths and infrared spectra support the multiple-bond character of the M—CO bonds. Coordination of a CO molecule to a metal center can change the C—O bond order. According to the description of ( - and TT-bonding given herein, increased ( -bonding between a metal and CO results in a... [Pg.62]

Description A tray or compartment diyer is an enclosed, insulated housing in which solids are placed upon tiers of trays in the case of particulate solids or stacked in piles or upon shelves in the case of large objects. Heat transfer may be direct from gas to sohds by circulation of large volumes of hot gas or indirect by use of heated shelves, radiator coils, or refractoiy walls inside the housing. In indirec t-heat units, excepting vacuum-shelf equipment, circulation of a small quantity of gas is usually necessary to sweep moisture vapor from the compartment and prevent gas saturation and condensation. Compartment units are employed for the heating and diying of lumber, ceramics, sheet materi s (supported on poles), painted and metal objects, and all forms of particulate solids. [Pg.1190]

Adequate support from the facility staff is absolutely essential. The facility staff must help the analysis team gather pertinent documents (e.g., PSilDs, procedures, software descriptions, material inventories, meteorological data, population data) and must describe current operating and maintenance practices. The facility staff must then critique the logic model(s) and calculation(s) to ensure that the assumptions are correct and that the results seem reasonable. The facility staff should also be involved in developing any recommendations to reduce risk so they will fully understand the rationale behind all proposed improvements and can help ensure that the proposed improvements are feasible. Table 12 summarizes the types of facility resources and personnel needed for a typical QRA. [Pg.29]

Japaconitine, Cj H jOnN. The possible identity of japaconitine with aconitine has been referred to already. The following description is based on Dunstan and Read s account and their view that the two alkaloids are distinct is supported by the difference in crystalline form recorded by Pope and by Schwankte. ... [Pg.679]

If we look at ISO 10013, which is referenced for guidance in preparing a quality manual, we will see that it shows that the quality manual is a top-level document containing the stated quality policy, the quality objectives, and a description of the quality system (see Figure 2.2). The definition in ISO 8402 supports this concept and the requirement aligns with this definition. However, ISO 8402, ISO 10013, and the above requirement from ISO 9001 provide a choice as to whether the manual contains or refers to procedures. [Pg.160]

In addition to the documents that serve product manufacture and installation or service delivery, documents may also be required for maintenance and operation. The product descriptions, handbooks, operating manuals, user guides, and other documents which support the product or service in use are as much a part of the design as the other product requirements. Unlike the manufacturing data, the support documents may be published either generally or supplied with the product to the customer. The design of such documentation is critical to the success of the product, as poorly constructed handbooks can be detrimental to sales. [Pg.252]

Operational sequence diagrams are flcw-charting techniques that represent any sequence of control movements and information collection activities that are executed in order to perform a task. Various activities in the diagram are represented with a symbolic notation, supported where necessary by a text description. For the majority of simple applications, OSDs assume a linear flow drawn from top to bottom with a limited degree of branching and looping. The symbols used are usually tailored to fit the type of task being studied and its level of analysis. [Pg.172]

The development and optimization of porous supports for chromatographic applications have depended on advances in polymer chemistry together with advances in particle manufacturing technology. Separations that required hours or days to achieve with early SEC supports are now typically performed in less than an hour. The following description of various types of media is presented in the approximate chronological order in which the various media were developed. [Pg.39]

The evidence supporting the duality of mechanisms is of several kinds. The kinetic behavior is an obvious feature. This is somewhat more complex than is implied by the preceding treatment. A quantitative description of the SnI mechanism requires recognition of the reversibility of the ionization step, thus... [Pg.428]

This chapter aims to convey the basic technical principles involved in electricity generation for industrial and commercial applications, with supporting technical data giving examples of the performance and efficiency of various schemes. A general guide is provided on the factors which have a major bearing on choice of an electricitygenerating scheme with further details of the plant, its layout and descriptions of actual installations. [Pg.177]
