Supply Chain Management concept

The conunon knowledge refers to industry standards and generally accepted supply chain management concepts. The common knowledge facilitates established mappings between concept definitions in repositories maintained by individual supply chain units, thus leading to easier establishment of the common repository used by the supply chain configuration system. [Pg.84]

When referring to the application of Poirier s model, one should stress its considerable contribution to the promotion of the supply chain management concept, while simultaneously pointing out its limitations due to the high generality of recommendations and lack of reference to the diversified conditions of supply chain operation. This is particularly important if supply chains operate in unfavourable business or social conditions. In such a situation, the improvement potential of Poirier s model and its credibility in terms of application may prove insufficient. [Pg.68]

Finally, an interesting trend in supply-chain management is improving business practices by providing capabilities to improve service for customers. One such concept is capability to promise. The idea is not just to ensure that the product is available, but that the supply chain is capable of delivering the product. This involves, for instance, capability to rapidly change the schedule to accommodate the customer order and interact with the active plant schedule. Such a system was developed at Celanese Fibers, which is integrated with a Customer Order System and enabled via a Web browser. [Pg.89]

The concept of successive planning is to decompose the overall decision problem into smaller subproblems and to tackle each of these with a suitable solution methodology. This decomposition often follows the principals of hierarchical planning, as most practical problems can be structured hierarchically. In the area of supply chain management, the so-called supply chain planning matrix is an... [Pg.239]

The framework is mainly based on the supply chain management framework of Rohde et al. (2000). Rohde s work is gradually enhanced to address the aspects of synchronized decision making within the value chain and the integration of supply, demand and value management concepts as shown in fig. 17. The framework is structured into the areas value chain, processes and methods. [Pg.57]

Special concepts such as VMI or CPFR share the characteristic to be volume and supply-focused as in supply chain management. Although the terms may differ, the detailed processes and tasks match the overall value chain management framework, since the anatomy of the value chain is considered not to be different. [Pg.64]

Supply chain management processes as well as application technology and service operations can benefit from the introduction of this concept as well (see Chapters 18 and 22). [Pg.105]

Over the course of time, however, leading distributors like Brenntag developed more and more towards the concept of supply chain management. Today, chemical distributors play a number of essential roles in the value chain between chemical producers and consumers (Fig. 12.1). [Pg.150]

Supply chain management is a comprehensive concept capturing objectives of functional integration and strategic deployment as a single managerial process. Figure 1 depicts the supply chain structure. [Pg.790]
