Supplementary drives

Absolute dominance ofafully satisfying professional drive and the acquisition of well-chosen supplementary drives are the conditions for a harmonious, well balanced life. [Pg.13]

Lack of full satisfaction in one s acquired professional and supplementary drives generates an urge to flee from frustration and seek salvation in Ersatz smoking, alcohol, drugs, and so on. [Pg.13]

Water, being characterized by very weak affinity to hydrophobic polystyrene, causes only a partial increase in the network volume and a partial elimination of the stresses existing in the dry material. The residual network stresses in aqueous media facilitate the absorption of all organic compounds, whether nonpolar or polar, with the sorption always accompanied by an additional volume increase of the polymer. As will be shown later, this is a supplementary driving force for absorption and a reason for the high loading capacity of hypercrosslinked adsorbing materials. [Pg.323]

A considerable percentage (40% - 85%) of hydrocarbons are typically not recovered through primary drive mechanisms, or by common supplementary recovery methods such as water flood and gas injection. This is particularly true of oil fields. Part of the oil that remains after primary development is recoverable through enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods and can potentially slow down the decline period. Unfortunately the cost per barrel of most EOR methods is considerably higher than the cost of conventional recovery techniques, so the application of EOR is generally much more sensitive to oil price. [Pg.356]

Note Friction braking may be employed for all sizes of drives, either as the only braking means as noted below, or as a supplementary safety means to keep the drive locked stationary when required,... [Pg.151]

As discussed in Section 15.2.2, the gas turbine s main disadvantage is its low efficiency of around 25-35 per cent in open cycle. However, this can be significantly improved by the use of a heat-recovery boiler that converts a good proportion of the otherwise waste heat in the turbine exhaust gases to high-pressure superheated steam, which, in turn, drives a conventional steam turbogenerator for supplementary electrical power. This can increase the overall efficiency to 50 per cent for no further heat input as fuel. [Pg.181]

In order to reveal the mechanism of this molecular half-adder, the T(E) spectra of the molecule are presented in Fig. 26b. When perpendicular to the plane of the molecule, each NO2 contributes a very sharp resonance which does not participate in the overall conductance. When rotated by 90°, an NO2 introduces a supplementary resonance in the gap of the molecule. Due to its asymmetrical delocalization over the atomic orbitals, this resonance increase the conduction between the drive and the XOR electrode, but not between the drive and the AND electrode. This insures a 1 output for the former and a 0 for the latter. When the two NO2S are rotated, the two resonances they introduce create a deep interference between the drive and the XOR electrode. Located on the Fermi energy of the molecule, this interference leads to a low conductance state and a 0 logical output for the XOR gate. In contrast, the two resonances do not interfere destructively between the drive and the AND electrode, leading to a high conductance state and a 1 logical output. [Pg.257]

Mitsui Chemicals is launching a new grade of carbon nanotube reinforced thermoplastic poly-imide, Aurum CNT, with supplementary specific properties such as dust reduction and antistatic behaviour. Targeted applications are, for example, processing jigs for semiconductor or hard disk manufacturing, and parts for hard disk drives. [Pg.839]

The muscle wasting associated with critical illness cannot be prevented/reversed by provision of calories and nitrogen alone. The need to overcome this catabolic drive has led to a number of trials of supplementary feeding regimens with, for example, either glutamine or growth factors. Whilst both have shown some benefit, there is no unequivocal evidence to support their use and... [Pg.417]

Typical SCR systems may achieve on-road NOx conversion efficiencies of 60-70% [18], However, the thermolysis of urea is an endothermic reaction that is favoured at high temperatures SCR is inefficient at temperatures below around 200°C [19], Hence, NOx emissions from SCR-equipped vehicles can often increase during urban driving where traffic conditions result in low exhaust temperatures [20]. Supplementary systems, such as EGR, are required to maintain acceptable emission-control performance under such conditions. [Pg.39]

However, since the fate of most individuals is still governed by the position in society into which they are born, only a minority is lucky enough to acquire professional drives in full harmony with natural endowments. The majority, as a matter of fact, forms - under coercion - the work-related drives that will ensure the place of the individual in the society. Conformity between one s innate abilities and acquired work-related drives is of key importance for lifelong equilibrium. However, not only the desire to be permanently active is a natural endowment of the human brain, but there is also a need for a new challenge to one s drives in due time. Even the most satisfying professional drive becomes boring after its permanent, continuous use and there is a need to continue to keep the brain in a satisfyingly active state. Inexhaustible forms of supplementary activities serve this aim. [Pg.13]

It is apparent from these equations that the product XcW acts like a supplementary potential felt by the electrons. Its role is to drive the convergence of the... [Pg.41]

Numerous joint research projects are in progress to promote and develop MID technology (Fig. 1.12). Joint information activities for technology transfer and supplementary marketing measures further contribute to driving the market penetration... [Pg.22]
