The subject of flash fires is a highly underdeveloped area in the literature. Only one mathematical model describing the dynamics of a flash fire has been published. This model, which relates flame height to burning velocity, dependent on cloud depth and composition, is the basis for heat-radiation calculations. Given the mixed results in the literature, it is difficult to know just how caffeine does affect memory. The second important source for the hydrosphere and the oceans are asteroids and comets. Estimating the amount of water which was brought to Earth from outer space is not easy. Until 20 years ago, it was believed that the only source of water for the hydrosphere was gas emission from volcanoes. The amount of water involved was, however, unknown (Rubey, 1964). First estimates of the enormous magnitude of the bombardment to which the Earth and the other planets were subjected caused researchers to look more closely at the comets and asteroids. New hypotheses on the possible sources of water in the hydrosphere now exist the astronomer A. H. Delsemme from the University of Toledo, Ohio, considers it likely that the primeval Earth was formed from material in a dust cloud containing anhydrous silicate. The surface of Venus is hidden under an unbroken layer of clouds 45-60 km above it. Recently, the planet has been subjected to a complete cartography by radar satellites. Its atmosphere contains 96% CO2 by volume, the remainder consisting of N2, SO2, sulphur particles, H2SO4 droplets, various reaction products and a trace of water vapour. Subjected to steady acceleration, a droplet is flattened gradually. When a critical relative velocity is reached, the flattened droplet is blown out into a hollow bag anchored to a nearly circular rim which contains at least 70% of the mass of the original droplet. The use of suppressors in ion chromatography of quaternary ammonium compounds can be of advantage. These are ion exchange membranes that introduce hydroxide ions instead of the counterion present in the analyte. This simplifies the mixture and enhances the electrolytic conductivity of the sample. The effluent of the suppressor may be nebulized and subjected to field-assisted evaporation, yielding a cloud of ions suspended in the gas phase, which can be introduced into an MS analyzer designed for work at atmospheric pressure.
