For both types of micro devices, a stainless steel frame was used as holder and Viton gaskets were applied for sealing ]72-74], A clear PMMA cover plate was also used and served for compression. This cover plate provided housing for a mini UV lamp used for irradiation. The detection imit was packaged in a similar fashion. Optical fibers were also integrated. [Pg.416]

A steel-frame maintenance building with sheet-metal siding is located 300 ft (90 m) from the edge of process unit handling ethylene. The building has an occupancy load of 800 person-hours, with 20 personnel present 40 hours a week. This exceeds the company s occupancy criteria. [Pg.25]

An industrial standard method has been developed to test the lightfastness of polymers in accelerated test equipment [103]. The apparatus consists of a quartz-xenon tube with a special optical filter between the light source and the specimen to produce light that resembles window glass-filtered daylight [104], Samples are mounted at a specific distance from the arc and are supported on a frame which revolves around the arc 1 to 5 times per minute for uniform exposure. A blower unit in the base provides a flow of air which makes it possible to maintain a black panel temperature of 45°C, measured by a black panel thermometer which is positioned at level with the samples. A black panel unit consists of a bimetallic thermometer mounted on a steel frame. Both faces of the frame plate and also the stem of the thermometer are coated with a heat-resistant glossy black enamel. The relative humidity level in the exposure cabinet is closely controlled. [Pg.90]

Enhanced pre-engineered metal buildings are comprised of steel Frames with cold-formed steel panels supported on cold-formed steel girts and purlins as illustrated in Figure 4.1. A comprehensive list of behavioral phenomena and physical attributes affecting the strength and stability of steel frames is compiled in White 1991. Some of the items listed include initial imperfections, residual stresses, initial strains, construction sequence, effects of simultaneous axial force, shear and moment on section capacities, P-dclta effect, local buckling and spread of inelastic zones in members. A similar list of items could be compiled for reinforced concrete and other structural materials. It is clear that a comprehensive advanced analysts can become quite... [Pg.47]

Most details for this type of construction are not uniquely influenced by blast resistant design. For steel frame buildings, appropriate AISC steel details used for plastic design methods should be used. The attachment of the siding and roofing requires special attention and the details shown in Figure 8.1 are applicable. [Pg.61]

This type of construction may be totally reinforced concrete, or may be a combination of concrete or steel frames with cast-in-place or precast walls. Shear wall details should be developed using the seismic provisions of ACI 318, Chapter 21. Figures 8.10 and 8.11 are typical cast-in-placc details. [Pg.61]

White 1993, Plastic Hinge Based Methods for advanced Analysis and Design of Steel Frames, D. W. White and W. F. Chen (cds), Structural Stability Research Council, Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, 1993... [Pg.133]

This type of construction uses precast concrete walls with steel or concrete frames (Figure 4.2). The frame resists all vertical loads and precast shear walls resist lateral loads. Ductile connections for precast panels are an important consideration. Precast panels are made with embedded steel connection devices attached to the building frame by bolting or welding. The roof is usually a concrete slab on metal deck. The metal deck is attached to steel framing by studs or puddle welds. Tins type of construction can be economically designed to withstand blast loading on the order of 7 to 10 psi (48 to 69 kPa) side-on overpressure. [Pg.160]

Headed studs are normally used to secure a roof slab to a structural steel framing system for rebound loads in new designs. This option may not available for upgrading existing structures. It may be necessary to provide through bolts to the structural frame with a backing plate on the top side of the stab. [Pg.204]
