Viton gaskets

For both types of micro devices, a stainless steel frame was used as holder and Viton gaskets were applied for sealing ]72-74], A clear PMMA cover plate was also used and served for compression. This cover plate provided housing for a mini UV lamp used for irradiation. The detection imit was packaged in a similar fashion. Optical fibers were also integrated.

Various reaction apparatus [56] have been developed for parallel synthesis on the basis of a 96-deep-well polypropylene microtiter plate. The resin beads and reaction solutions are placed into each well of the microtiter plate. During the reaction step, the plate is clamped against a Viton gasket in order to seal the hole at the bottom of the well. Between reaction steps the reaction solution can be drained and the resin can then be rinsed by removal of the Viton gasket. 

Figure 5-32 is a block diagram of the ANL acoustic cross-correlation test section (Sheen and Raptis, 1986) for monitoring solid/gas flows. Three pairs of wide-band transducers are clamped directly on the pipe. In each pair, one transducer acts as a transmitter and the other as a receiver. To avoid acoustic crosstalk, each pair of transducers is acoustically isolated from the others. The isolation is achieved by using viton gaskets between flanges. During operation, the transmitters delivered a continuous wave with a frequency of 1 MHz. Receivers were conditioned with amplifiers and band-passed filters set at 100-1... 

The parallel plate cell is constructed in two halves each with two electrodes Anode-Cathode (100 cm2 surface each) inlaid in polypropylene blocks. On one of the halves inlet and outlets were provided for circulation of the electrol3d . The interelectrode gap was 4 mm (thickness of the viton gasket).

The gas permeability of membranes can be measured by means of a two-chamber cell, as shown in Fig. 6.9. The two chambers have different pressures of up to 10 bar, and are separated by a membrane sample, which is supported by porous carbon or metallic mesh and sealed by, e.g., Viton gaskets [29]. 

Thiols iateract readily with many mbber-containing materials. For this reason, care should be taken ia the selection of gasket and hose materials. Teflon, Kel-F, Viton, or other suitable fluoroelastomers function as gasket materials. Viton is suitable for hoses. Carbon steel is useful for many thiols, although some thiols become very discolored when carbon steel is utilized. In these cases, the use of stainless steel is very desirable. Isolation from air and water also minimizes color formation. 2-Mercaptoethanol and 1,2-ethanedithiol should be stored ia stainless steel (61). 

SmaH quantities of carbon tetrachloride can be shipped in 1, 5, and 55 gaHon (208 L) metal containers. Larger quantities are shipped by tank tmck, tank car, barge, and ship. Seamless stainless steel. Teflon, or seamless bronze hose is recommended with asbestos. Teflon, Viton, or neoprene gaskets. Special precautions should be taken to prevent contact with aluminum, magnesium metal, and their aHoys (48).

The molded liners for the inlet head, cylinder section, and conical sections have Integral molded gaskets for sealing at the flanged joints. Molded liners and vulcanized linings are offered in gum rubber, polyurethane, nitrile rubber, butyl. Neoprene , Viton , Hypalon , and other liner materials can be supplied. 

The construction materials for the plates include most corrosion-resistant metals, usually 304SS, 316SS, titanium, Incoloy 825 , Hastelloy , and others, plus nonmetallic fused graphite, and fluoroplastic Diabon F . Typical gaskets between the plates include nitrile rubber, butyl, and EPDM elastromers, Hypalon and Viton , based on the various manufacturers literature.

The anodes are platinized titanium (titanium plated with 5 microns of platinum) the cathodes are also titanium plated with 2.5 microns of platinum. All gaskets are Viton GF (peroxide grade), and the cell membranes are DuPont Nation 324. Flow through the cells is in parallel using manifolds with /4-inch fluid-flow inlet port orifices to provide equal flow to all cells. 

End plates and ports to be PVDF-lined ductile cast iron. Gaskets to be Viton for agent and Viton GF for energetics. Electrodes to be platinized titanium, pinhole-free, to a thickness of 5 micrometers for the anodes and 2.5 micrometers for the cathodes. 

Teflon is satisfactory for valve packing and gaskets in cold or ambient temperature HCN service. Above 45°C, HCN will penetrate the surface of Teflon , polymerize and destroy the material. Hypalon is probably the best material for hose linings for handling HCN at ambient temperature. Viton is better at somewhat higher temperatures254.
