Steel constructions galvanized

In galvanized steel constructions, blasting is also necessary to provide a coatable surface. The sweep-blasting method is used in which the zinc surface is roughened without removing a significant amount of the zinc layer. When constructions made of aluminum alloys are coated, their surfaces must be blasted with iron-free blasting materials. [Pg.244]

The success of the galvanized steel construction has been confirmed by its choice for other projects within the Whitbread Group, such as the brewery at Magor, South Wales. [Pg.252]

Industrially, the most important property of zinc metal is its ability to form an alloy with iron so that a thin adherent layer can be applied to the surface of iron workpieces. The zinc coating, obtained either by hot-dip galvanizing or aqueous electrogalvanizing, considerably extends the service life of steel constructions. In addition, zinc alloys can be easily cast into intricate shapes that are used extensively in household goods and automotive equipment, building, and construction utilities. Other important areas are brasses, batteries, tires, and other rubber goods. Furthermore, zinc is now known to be an essential nutrient that is indispensable for human health as well as for many species of animals and plants, and it is therefore used in pharmaceuticals, fertilizers, and animal feed. [Pg.188]

In general, both sterns were housed in mild steel housings with a variety of paint finishes. The weather louvres and vanes were normally constructed fi om a marine grade aluminum alloy. The filter elements often had stainless steel o galvanized frames. [Pg.92]

Materials of Construction Suitable materials of constmction are steel, stainless steel, and aluminum 3003. Galvanized steel should not be used. Plastic tanks and lines are not recommended. [Pg.129]

Ducts are most often constructed of field-fabricated galvanized sheet steel, although other materials such as fibrous glass board, factory-fabricated round fibrous glass, spiral sheet metal, and flexible duct materials are becoming increasingly popular. Other duct construction materials include black steel, aluminum, stainless steel, plastic and plastic-coated steel, cement, asbestos, and copper. [Pg.143]

The construction materials should be selected to withstand the operating conditions and the condition of the pollutants. Galvanized sheet steel and black mild steel are the most common for general work. Corrosion or heat applications will have ducting constructed in stainless steel or plastic. [Pg.766]

Contact of brass, bronze, copper or the more resistant stainless steels with the 13% Cr steels in sea-water can lead to accelerated corrosion of the latter. Galvanic contact effects on metals coupled to the austenitic types are only slight with brass, bronze and copper, but with cadmium, zinc, aluminium and magnesium alloys, insulation or protective measures are necessary to avoid serious attack on the non-ferrous material. Mild steel and the 13% chromium types are also liable to accelerated attack from contact with the chromium-nickel grades. The austenitic materials do not themselves suffer anodic attack in sea-water from contact with any of the usual materials of construction. [Pg.545]

Materials of construction must he corrosion resistant. Steel should he hot galvanized, although some resin coatings may suffice. GRP casings are used hy some manufacturers. The water-dispersal packing of a cooling tower is made of treated timber or corrugated plastic sheet. [Pg.72]

The U.S. accounts for almost one-quarter of worldwide slab zinc consumption and is the world s single largest market. About 80% of zinc is used in metal form, and the rest is used in compound form. In total, 90% of zinc metal is used for galvanizing steel (a form of corrosion protection) and for alloys, and is used in a wide variety of materials in the automotive, construction, electrical, and machinery sectors of the economy. Zinc compound use also varies widely, but is mainly found in the agricultural, chemical, paint, pharmaceutical, and rubber sectors of the economy. [Pg.91]

Corrosion and poor installation are by far the most common causes of storage system leaks. The most common causes of release from bare-steel UST systems are galvanic corrosion and the breakdown of hard refined steel to its natural soft ore. Because older USTs are usually constructed from bare steel, corrosion is believed to be the leading factor contributing to release. The speed and severity of corrosion varies depending on site characteristics, such as soil conductivity,... [Pg.691]

Zinc is mainly used in the production of noncorrosive alloys, brass, and in galvanizing steel and iron products. Zinc undergoes oxidation on the surface, thus protecting the underlying metal from degradation. Galvanized products are widely used in construction materials, automobile parts, and... [Pg.636]

The covers are constructed from aluminum or some type of steel. This should provide adequate protection from being pierced or cut through. The metals are corrosion resistant so that they will not corrode or become fragile from extreme weather conditions in outdoor applications. The bolts used to install each of these systems are galvanized steel. In addition, the bolts for each cover are installed on the inside of the unit so they cannot be removed from the outside. [Pg.190]

Duct work should be constructed of lock forming quality aluminum, galvanized steel, or stainless steel. [Pg.247]

Corrosion within the tower itself is due mainly to the particular conditions existing therein (air, humidity and temperature) and also to the chemical treatment of the water. All construction materials exposed to these conditions must be selected carefully. Hardware and piping for distribution headers have been successfully made with hot-dipped galvanized steel, cadmium-coated steel, stainless steel and silicon bronze. [Pg.186]

Is the cooling tower for HVAC purposes and constructed of galvanized steel Did the initial treatment program encompass a passivation program to prevent the risk of white rust Can the tower cope with peak summer cooling demands ... [Pg.269]

Construction materials in contact with birds should not be toxic, nor be capable of adsorbing or absorbing test substances. Materials that can be dissolved by water or loosened by pecking should not be used. Stainless or galvanized steel, or materials coated with plastics are acceptable. Any material or pen shape is acceptable provided the birds are able to move about freely and pens can be kept clean One concentration should kill more than 0% but less than 50%, and one concentration should kill more than 50% but less than 100%. These results can be obtained with 4 to 6 treatment levels... [Pg.88]

The chamber is constructed of mill finished stucco embossed aluminum with a 20 gauge heavy duty galvanized steel floor. The choice of an all aluminum structure was based on the lack of reactivity of formaldehyde with aluminum (9, observed adsorption of formaldehyde on steel sheet metal(10), and the availability of a prefabricated walk-in cooler. [Pg.156]
