We slightly adjusted our model to allow for spot market buying and selling of heavy naphtha, vacuum gas oil and all products in order to demonstrate actual total site refinery planning and compare our results with those of Favennec et al. (2001). The model results and a comparison are shown in Table 3.2. [Pg.67]

As a rule of thumb one should approach a hydrocarbon spill (non-fire situation) under the assumption that the liquid is vaporizing (the vapors will be invisible) and that the liberated vapors are heavier than air unless proven otherwise. The expected conduct of a heavier-than-air vapor is for it to drop and spread at or below ground level much as a liquid would. The big difference is that a liquid will be visible and its boundaries well defined. One can expect that the invisible heavier-than-air vapor will settle and collect in low spots such as ditches, basements, sewers, etc. As the vapor navels, it will be mixing with the air, thus some portions of the cloud may be too rich to bum, other sections too lean, and still others well within the explosive range. Some typical vapor densities for petroleum products are 3 to 4 for gasoline, 2.5 for naphtha, and 1.1 for methanol. For comparison, the vapor density for hydrogen gas is 0.1. [Pg.188]

Traded prices for ethylene and propylene produced and sold on the pipeline network in Europe are shown in Figure 5.1. This plots the spot prices for ethylene and propylene from 1989 to 2008 with the price of naphtha as bars underneath. The graph shows the following features ... [Pg.87]

Volatile Oils.— Thesc are volatile odoriferous principles found in various parts of numerous plants which arise either as a direct product of the protoplasm or through a decomposition of a layer of the cell wall which Tschirch designates a resinogenous layer. They are readily distilled from plants, together with watery vapor, are slightly soluble in water, but very soluble in fixed oils, ether, chloroform, glacial acetic acid, naphtha, alcohol, benzin and benzol. They leave a spot on paper which, however, soon disappears. They respond to osmic acid, alkannin, Sudan III, and cyanin stains similar to the fixed oils and fats. [Pg.92]

OTHER COMMENTS used in the manufacture of benzoic acid, benzaldehyde, explosives, dyes, and many other organic compounds used as a solvent for paints, lacquers, gums, and resins used in cements, solvents, spot removers, cosmetics, antifreezes, and inks a constituent of asphalt and naphtha also used in fuel blending. [Pg.959]

Prices for Naphtha are partially transparent on the spot markets and can be found e.g. in Kellermann (2012). However, most quantities are traded based on long-term contracts. Hence, the spot market prices are potentially slightly over-estimated. The return on assets is a key figure reported in companies economic reports, see e.g. BASF (2012) for one specific example or Fortune (2006) for an industry-wide figure. [Pg.157]

If the substance which it is desired to ignite be moistened (at the spot wliere the potassium is placed) with mineral naphtha, success is more certain. [Pg.47]
