Specifications, Standards, Quality Control, and Health and Safety Factors. The hardboard industry is represented by the American Hardboard Association (AHA). Specifications and standards are contained in several ANSI standards (8—11). These standards define the various hardboard product categories as well as specific product qualities required for each group. [Pg.390]

Nutrients. In the United States, foods are either restored, enriched, or fortified with nutrients. Restoration refers to the addition of nutrients to foods to replace those nutrients that are lost ia processiag. Enrichment is similar to restoratioa, but federal guideliaes specify the exact amouat and kiads of nutrients added to specific products. Eortification refers to the addition of nutrients that do not naturally occur ia the food. This last is typically doae to preveat diseases of auttitioaal deficieacy. [Pg.442]

Natural Gums. These were used in early styling products, formerly called wave sets. Natural gums generally make hazy solutions and the dried film tends to flake. For these reasons they are rarely used. Some of these gums, eg, tragacanth and alginates, can create humidity-resistant films and have limited use for specific product concepts. [Pg.453]

The use of state-selective chemistry has been an experimental tool to elucidate the dynamics of chemical reactions, but its appHcation to practical chemical process control to enhance yields of specific products is ia the developmental stage. [Pg.18]

Liquids. Approximately 170,000 railroad tank cars are used in the United States. The interior surfaces of these cars are tailored to carry a wide variety of products and are constmcted of steel which is either unlined or lined with materials to enhance the chemical compatibiUty with a specific product these lining materials include synthetic mbber, phenoHc or modified epoxy resins, or corrosion-resistant materials such as aluminum, nickel-bearing steel, or stainless steel. [Pg.511]

Nonwood fibers are used in relatively small volumes. Examples of nonwood pulps and products include cotton Enters for writing paper and filters, bagasse for cormgated media, esparto for filter paper, or Manila hemp for tea bags. Synthetic pulps which are based on such materials as glass (qv) and polyolefins also are used (see Olefin polymers). These pulps are relatively expensive and usually are used in blends with wood pulps where they contribute a property such as tear resistance, stiffness, or wet strength which is needed to meet a specific product requirement. [Pg.1]

Cycloaliphatic amines are comprised of a cyclic hydrocarbon stmctural component and an amine functional group external to that ring. Included in an extended cycloaUphatic amine definition ate aminomethyl cycloaUphatics. Although some cycloaUphatic amine and diamine products have direct end use apphcations, their major function is as low cost organic intermediates sold as moderate volume specification products. [Pg.206]

There are many different equipment options avaQable to suit specific product needs including continuous winders for pipe, multiaxis winders for pressure vessels, and simple lathe-type winders for tanks and large pipe. Specialty machines combine a chopped reinforcement with continuous fibers for tank walls and large-diameter pipe where both stiffness and tensQe strength are required. Textile braiders have also been adapted for use as continuous... [Pg.96]

Other Processes. There are a variety of other processes that have been developed to suit specific product needs. [Pg.97]

Hybrid Processes. There are also hybrid processes that have evolved to meet specific product needs. As an example, automotive leaf springs utilize a filament winding system to prepare impregnated fiber bundles that are then compression molded to final configuration. [Pg.97]

Although there are minor differences in the HCl—vinyl chloride recovery section from one vinyl chloride producer to another, in general, the quench column effluent is distilled to remove first HCl and then vinyl chloride (see Eig. 2). The vinyl chloride is usually further treated to produce specification product, recovered HCl is sent to the oxychlorination process, and unconverted EDC is purified for removal of light and heavy ends before it is recycled to the cracking furnace. The light and heavy ends are either further processed, disposed of by incineration or other methods, or completely recycled by catalytic oxidation with heat recovery followed by chlorine recovery as EDC (76). [Pg.419]

Economic Aspects. Prices for PVAc polymers depend on the form of the polymer, ie, whether it is resin or emulsion, homopolymer or copolymer, as well as on the specific product. As of 1994, emulsion prices were 0.57— 0.86/wet kg of resin. Prices of VAE copolymer emulsions tend to be higher than those of the homopolymer priced at 0.97— 1.43/wet kg. Vinyl acryUc copolymers Hsted for 0.66— 0.88/wet kg of 55% soHds emulsion (138). Specialty copolymers generally have a premium price. These price ranges are for large shipments. [Pg.467]

Resistivity. The temperature coefficient of electrical resistivity of commercial siUcon carbide at room temperature is negative. No data are given for refractory materials because resistivity is gready induenced by the manufacturing method and the amount and type of bond. Manufacturers should be consulted for specific product information. [Pg.465]

For most processes, the optimum operating point is determined by a constraint. The constraint might be a product specification (a product stream can contain no more than 2 percent ethane) violation of this constraint causes off-specification product. The constraint might be an equipment hmit (vessel pressure rating is 300 psig) violation of this constraint causes the equipment protection mechanism (pressure relief device) to activate. As the penalties are serious, violation of such constraints must be very infrequent. [Pg.730]

In a few apphcations, improving the control system leads to a reduction in orf-specification product and thus improved process economics. However, in most situations, the process is operated sufficiently far from the constraint that very little, if any, off-specification produc t results from control system deficiencies. Management often places considerable emphasis on avoiding off-spec production, so consequently the target is ac tuaUy set far more conservatively than it should be. [Pg.730]

In addition to films that originate at least in part in the corroding metal, there are others that originate in the corrosive solution. These include various salts, such as carbonates and sulfates, which may be precipitated from heated solutions, and insoluble compounds, such as beer stone, which form on metal surfaces in contac t with certain specific products. In addition, there are films of oil and grease that may protect a material from direct contact with corrosive substances. Such oil films may be apphed intentionally or may occur naturally, as in the case of metals submerged in sewage or equipment used for the processing of oily substances. [Pg.2422]

Discussion with operators provide substantial insight. The purpose of the discussion should be to develop an understanding of operators perspec tives of the unit, their foci for the operation, and their decision sequence in response to deviations and off-specification products. Two additional, albeit nontechnical, goals of this discussion are to establish rapport with the operators and to learn their language. The operators will ultimately be required to implement recommendations developed by analysts. Their confidence is essential to increase the likehhood of success. The following topics should be included in the discussion. [Pg.2553]

The detemiination of trace elements in alcoholic drinks is an important subject since they are widely consumed. Their composition depends on many factors related to the specific production area, to climate, soil and water used. [Pg.168]

As a world leader in Fluorine chemistry, Honeywell has established a broad base of application specific products to enable the semiconductor industry to meet its technology roadmap. Most recently, we have announced the availability of a new line of wafer thinning materials which provide increased chip flexibility and reduced package size as well as increased thermal dissipation... [Pg.465]
