Gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors are located on the postsynaptic membranes of inhibitory synapses of both vertebrates and insects and contain within their membrane-spanning structure a chloride ion channel. The concepts of molecular similarity (1-3) and molecular diversity (4,5) play important roles in modern approaches to computer-aided molecular design. Molecular similarity provides the simplest, and most widely used, method for virtual screening and underlies the use of clustering methods on chemical databases. Molecular diversity analysis provides a range of tools for exploring the extent to which a set of molecules spans structural space, and underlies many approaches to compound selection and to the design of combinatorial libraries. Many different similarity and diversity methods have been described in the literature, and new methods continue to appear. This raises the question of how one can compare different methods, so as to identify the most appropriate method(s) for some particular application this chapter provides an overview of the ways in which this can be carried out, illustrating such comparisons by,... [Pg.51]

Aluminum geodesic dome roof tanks are becoming popular. These are often the economic choice. They offer superior corrosion resistance for a wide range of conditions, and are clear span structures not requiring internal supports. They can also be built to any required diameter. With the current growing appreciation of cellular processes as molecular chemical machines, it is clear that more ample understanding, beyond lesion processing by polymerases, is needed. In the cell, there is a dynamic interplay between replication, transcription, and various repair mechanisms [105-108]. How these various processes are called into play in the face of DNA lesions is currently the focus of research in areas that span structural, molecular, cellular, and systems biology, with computational approaches playing increasingly vital roles [109]. Because of their favourable cost-performance ratio, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) coated polyester (PET) fabric is the most common basic material used. It can be applied over the whole spectrum from small temporary to wide-span structures. With a top-coat that protects the PVC from soiling and early ageing, a life-span of up to 20-25 years can be obtained. PVC-PET composites are joined by high-frequency or hot wedge welding.
