At present, the role of water in this type AFR polymerization is unclear. It seems likely that water changes the nature of the complex or solvating nature of the active ends of the anionic chain. Because of the hydrophobic aliphatic polymer chain, a polar compound such as water probably can approach the catalyst site to solvate or complex the environment of the active center without destroying the C—metal bond. This water barrier may prevent water-insoluble monomer from penetrating the reaction site, while with a water-soluble acrylate, the presence of the... [Pg.295]

The Initial phase of the development was the determination of the relative solubility of the selected pheromone, ZZ and ZE-7, 11-hexadecadlenyl acetate (Gossyplure, 1 1 ratio). In a suitable polymer matrix. Four different water-soluble or water-reducible resins were Initially Investigated a water-soluble acrylic mixture, two latex emulsions and a natural rubber colloid. Intrln- sic solubility was determined by making resln/pheromone solutions of varying concentrations and measuring the rate of pheromone diffusion from dried films. In this manner, we were able to determine the most suitable base polymer from which to begin. [Pg.154]

On the basis of laboratory and field results, the soluble acrylic system was chosen for further field trials. The formulation (code //1692) was tested on 210 hectares, 13 separate fields in Arizona and California during the 1982 growing season. Each test field was compared to a standard field, treated either with a chemical regime or a commercial pheromone product, located in the immediate vicinity. The efficacy assessment was based on trap catch reduction and boll infestation control. The treatment rate was 6.9 liters of formulation per hectare. This represented a rate of 3.7 grams pheromone and 36.9 grams pyrethroid per hectare. Treatment intervals were approximately ten days apart and the applications... [Pg.158]

Carboset [B. F. Goodrich]. TM for water-soluble acrylic thermoset and thermoplastic products. [Pg.237]

The peculiar enhancement of the catalytic activity in biphasic medium for the hydroformylation of the water-soluble acrylates seems to be due to the physical and chemical properties of water [21]. Indeed, it is assumed that water stabilizes... [Pg.413]

Acrylic modifiers for cement impact strength and adhesion to substrates are discussed in reference 211. Both water-soluble acrylic and acrylic emulsion polymers are used in the ceramic industry as temporary binders, deflocculants, and additive components in ceramic bodies and glazes (212) (see Ceraldcs). [Pg.172]

Although in pxinciple associative thickenos could be prepared from any water-soluble polymer to which hydrophobic blocks can be attached, only three types are commercially available at present hydrophobe-modified polyfetl lene oxide), hydrophobe-modified alkali-soluble acrylic polymers, and hydrophobe-modified hydroxyethyl cellulose. However, the literature contains reports on other types, including hydrophobe-modified polyacrylamide [103], hydrophobe-modified hydroxypropyl guar [104], and a hydrophobe-modified cationic cellulose... [Pg.648]

Solubility Acrylic fibers are insoluble in acetone, but soluble in DMF, DMAC, and DMSO at room temperature. Modacrylics, such as Dynel and Verel, are exceptions because they may be soluble in acetone but insoluble in methanol. All of the modacrylics are soluble in butyrolactone at room temperature. [Pg.925]

Receipt, properties and application of water soluble acrylic copolymers, Moscow, Chemistry , 1982, 280p. [Pg.96]

Light scattering measurements based on turbidimetric titration have been applied to a wide range of polymers including PE [164], PP [165], PS [166-170], polymethylstyrene [171], PVC [172], chlorinated PVC-styrene [165], polyethylene oxide [173], polyphenylene oxide [174], PET [175,176], PEG [166], PS [177-179], styrene-methyl methacrylate copolymer [180], water-soluble acrylic acid and acryloamide copolymers [181], poly-a-methylstyrene [182], PS-block-polyisoprene [183], and poly(esterurethane) [184]. [Pg.284]

The objective of the present work was to demonstrate efficient routes to sugar-based vinyl monomers based on enzyme selectivity, determine whether 6-O -acryl glucoside was polymerizable and to synthesize water-soluble acrylic acid-based copolymers that also contain vinyl-sugar repeat units. [Pg.421]

Besides the normal suspension pol)unerization, the inverse-suspension polymerization is also employed in large-scaled production, which is mainly hmited to the water-soluble monomer, such as the acrylamide and soluble acrylates and the solutions of the monomer and initiator are suspended in an oil phase. [Pg.446]

There are a number of commercially available azo initiators that are particularly useful for the polymerisation of water soluble acrylic monomers. Widely used examples include 2,2 -azobis(2-amidinopropane)dihydrochloride, 2,2 -azobis[2-(2-imidazolin-2-yl)propane] dihydrochloride, 2,2 -azobisisobutyronitrile, 2,2 -azobis(2,4-dimethylvaleronitrile) and 2,2 -azobis(2 -methylbutyronitrile). [Pg.141]

Water soluble, acrylic acid-itaconic acid copolymers have been utilized for some time as a material to formulate a class of dental restoratives commonly called glass-ionomers. The latter type copolymer was modified with N-vinylpyrrolidone, as a route to improve the mechanical properties of this class of dental materials. Design of experiment (DOE) techniques were utilized to determine what ratio of monomers would provide the best set of properties. It was shown that poly(acrylic acid-co-itaconic acid-co-N-vinylpyrrolidone), with monomer ratios of 7 3 1 and 8 2 1, respectively, could be utilized to formulate matrix resins for glass-ionomers, where the new matrix resins had potential for providing improved performance materials, compared to known commercial glass-ionomer systems. [Pg.222]
